Please keep this thread on topic. If you want to discuss the differences between the book and the series please post in the other thread. There is a lot of gray area in what is and isn't a spoiler so please keep this thread dedicated to the HBO series. Hopefully this will get rid of the arguing that took over the original thread.
Thanks!

This season sure has been different than the books and here's a list of reasons how....

Has anyone read all the books? I've stayed out of the other thread so far - I've found that it's pretty hard to read the books and stay spoiler free if you look up any of the characters on the interwebs.

I've finished the first two, and will probably read the 3rd, but based on the Amazon reviews, it sounds like the 4th and 5th are pretty weak. Should I bother with them, or just read the summaries on wikipedia?

Crazy one tonight, story just building and building. Only two episodes left this season, which leads me to believe **** is about to hit the fan.

I just finished the 2nd book, and have the 3rd and 4th. But I have heard the same things you have about the 4th and 5th.

I want to agree with this, but there are 3 more books and they don't even finish the series. So it worries me.

More scenes with Arya and Tywin please.

Agreed, they have the most interesting interplay among the characters right now.

Anyone else just checkout during the Danaerys storyline? You would think someone who has 3 dragons wouldn't be so boring.

Book 3 is worth reading - there are some events (1 in particular) that occur in this book that were meant for HBO.

The reason books 4 & 5 feel drawn out is because they are 1 book that was split in half: book 4 covers the events in Westeros, while book 5 covers the lands outside of Westeros (the wall).

The last few minutes last night left me shocked. Theon is way over his head. If that was indeed one of the Stark kids, he just made the biggest mistake he could. And the look on his face made me think it wasn't his doing.

No way they killed the little stark kid without showing any of it. It's a power play to force the others to take him seriously. Stark is fine, you can tell his story and connection to the wolf is yet to be told. I have not read the books btw.

Good point. So were those the orphan boys that they pointed out during their walk? And did they just give up searching then? I can't believe there are only three episodes left this season. Either this is going to get crazy, or the cliffhanger is going to **** me off.

Book 3 is the best. 4 is my least favorite. I loved Book 5.

Most of the negative reviews for 4 and 5 are from readers that waited 5 years between books and built up their expectation levels too high. I have loaned my books to probably a dozen different people, and all of them who had been reading straight through liked Books 4 and 5, so I think most of the negativity is a function of the long wait between books and huge expectations.

This ^^^ .. while they do not have a lot of action, they are still very good books (and are setting the scene for some major conflicts on the horizon ;) )

I agree with this and thought the same last night when I saw his reaction. I think Theon's right hand man called that move both as a power play to the people of Winterfell and to test Theon's stones.
