If they want someone to energize the crowd for Football, get David Carr. He’s already working for ISU and he gets good responses anytime he’s on the screen. Kids love DC, students love DC and I don’t really know anyone who is not a big supporter of him. Jamie is peeing it down his leg by not hiring David.
David Carr already has an important job. He can’t do all the jobs.

If they are looking for a way to energize the crowd, and make time outs less boring, there are better ways.

Have none of the people in charge of this ever been to a "true" SEC game? I'm not talking about Mizzou. Just replicate what they do during timeouts in Oxford, Tuscaloosa, etc.

I don't think the point is to energize the crowd though. Or at least it shouldn't be, and I think that's where yesterday was off the mark a little. It should be an entertaining presence to help keep the crowd engaged. That isn't the same thing as trying to manufacture energy when there isn't any.

Not exactly sure.

David can do everything :). Seriously, David’s personality and knowledge of ISU and its traditions would allow him to basically show up and do it. Hand him a mic and let him roam, he could entertain the crowd by being himself. The current lady is clueless on entertaining the crowd.

I couldn't hear it on TV but it all sounds about on par with forced in game hype stuff that has always been a thing.

In game host or not, the in-game sponsored gimmicks do nothing. They're all the same.

Smile cam.
Flex cam.
Headset cam.

Bring back things like the fan attempting a field goal where the crowd for a short moment can erupt in celebration of a made kick, or groan in embarrassment over a horribly missed attempt.

So is she an actual Iowa fan or just did events for Iowa similar to what she’s doing for isu? Big distinction IMO.

I wasn’t in the stadium so I didn’t experience it, but I’ve gotta imagine I’d be annoyed by it too. But everyone freaking out saying she’s an Iowa fan cuz she was involved in one game doesn’t mean she’s a die hard hok

Not surprised we are doing this. Back before Covid we would go to NBA games occasionally in Minnesota and Milwaukee. I always found these microphone personalities to be incredibly annoying. They have one at the Big 12 tournament basketball tournament also. This used to be more of a basketball thing. Hate to see it being incorporated at football games also.

We should make Conrad Hawley our game day hype man.
Honestly I think this would be way better than the current version. I would go a step further and do different people for each game with it being a special guest each time. You could do either current athletes/teams mixed with famous alumni like Tyrese, Georges, and Seneca.

Also if I want someone screaming at me during the game, I'd bring my wife.

Whether or not she’s a hawk fan or whatever, they could have put out some social media post introducing her to get out ahead of any hawk stuff. Engagement is spot on. But people want to engage with people who are interested in the same thing. People aren’t going to want to engage with someone who next weekend could be rooting for the other freaking team, regardless of its Iowa or not. It’s just weird. And if she’s for real an Iowa fan just makes it 10x worse.

Folks who keep suggesting plugging Cyclone personalities into this job as if anyone off the street can do it (or would even want to) need to think back to Coach Otz trying to pump up the crowd during the Iowa game in 2021, I think it was. For those who don't recall, it was...awkward.

Yesterday wasn't great but we're veering into overreaction here. Need to give it a little time and space to improve before passing too much judgment.

ND had the ball for 37.5 min. I think that killed the atmosphere. If we dropped 40 on them and that gal was yelling on the screen I don’t think we care as much. That game was just odd and we had very few plays to pump up the crowd. I’ll give it a few more games just like all the other new changes we had. Phone scanning all the tickets was outrageous at first , but now it’s pretty easy.
