They said that Niang is 11 points away from being the all-time leading scorer in Big 12 games. They didn't say it, but when I compared his points to Buddy Hield, it has to include tournament games.

In just regular season games, Hield has 1166 and Niang has 1112 (according to sports-reference.com and adding in today's points). I added in the tournament games and Niang has 1251 and Hield has 1219. So even if Niang breaks the records, Hield could still pass him if he plays more tournament games.

I wish when they mentioned stats like this, they would show a chart of who the top players are so we could see who he is trying to pass. I have no idea who the leading scorer is. Sports-reference shows the all-time leading scorers, but not just in Big 12 games.

Here was Top 7 in all-time points coming into today's game:

RankPlayerPTSFromToLast School
1.LaceDarius Dunn228520082011Baylor
2.Andre Emmett225620012004Texas Tech
3.Jarrius Jackson222120042007Texas Tech
4.Jacob Pullen213220082011Kansas State
5.Nick Collison209720002003Kansas
6.Georges Niang205520132016Iowa State
7.Buddy Hield204320132016Oklahoma

Unfortunately, Hield had 33 (and is now at 2076) and Niang had 17 (and is now at 2072), so Hield passed up Niang to move into 6th. If we play the maximum number of games, Niang has a shot at breaking Dunn's record. He is 213 behind him. Of course, Hield has a shot of breaking the record too.

ESPN didn't factor in that Hield broke the record in their game this afternoon. They were referencing point totals prior to today's games.

The top 5, in conference games only:
1. Buddy Hield - 1,128
2. Bernard King (A&M) - 1,123
3. Georges Niang - 1,114
4. Andre Emmett (TTU) - 1,112
5. Richard Roby (CU) - 1,103

Where did you get those stats? I would like to add in the tournament games to see where they stand including tournament games.

Big 12 record book has a "conference games only" in the career section.

The league website has archived stats for the last several years, including conference-only stats.

2013: Niang 225, Hield 106
2014: Niang 297, Hield 315
2015: Niang 269, Hield 333
2016: Niang 321, Hield 404
Total: Niang 1,112; Hield 1,158

Looks like my source(s) had some problems with math.

There is a glitch in the sports-reference numbers for the 2012-13 season. Oklahoma and West Virginia played a non-conference game even though they were conference opponents. Sport-reference counts this as a regular season conference game. Hield scored 8 points in the game, which is why sports-reference has him at 1166 total as opposed to the Big XII which has him at 1158.
