They said that Niang is 11 points away from being the all-time leading scorer in Big 12 games. They didn't say it, but when I compared his points to Buddy Hield, it has to include tournament games.
In just regular season games, Hield has 1166 and Niang has 1112 (according to sports-reference.com and adding in today's points). I added in the tournament games and Niang has 1251 and Hield has 1219. So even if Niang breaks the records, Hield could still pass him if he plays more tournament games.
I wish when they mentioned stats like this, they would show a chart of who the top players are so we could see who he is trying to pass. I have no idea who the leading scorer is. Sports-reference shows the all-time leading scorers, but not just in Big 12 games.
Here was Top 7 in all-time points coming into today's game:
Unfortunately, Hield had 33 (and is now at 2076) and Niang had 17 (and is now at 2072), so Hield passed up Niang to move into 6th. If we play the maximum number of games, Niang has a shot at breaking Dunn's record. He is 213 behind him. Of course, Hield has a shot of breaking the record too.
