Tough loss today to a really good Seton Hall team, definitely excited to see the rematch in Hilton. This was probably mentioned in the game thread, but I was pretty impressed with how Bolton, Tyrese, and even Nixon were attacking and getting to the rim today. Some of Bolton's finishes were just unreal. It seems like shooting could be a consistent problem for this team, but I think their ability to get to the rim adds a different dimension to the team. Thoughts?

I agree. Seems like some of the younger guys are getting the feel for this team and asserting themselves a little bit. I couldn't tell, was Bolten getting any help from set plays or did he just put on a clinic by himself?

Shots are falling now at an acceptable rate, at least these last two games. Now the defense is a concern. Can’t let teams shoot 60% in the second half and ever expect to win.

The team hasn’t found itself yet, but despite the losses made a lot of progress this tournament. Need to win out the non-con or our chances for March will be slim.

Yeah, shots have been better. I guess defense really is the main concern per usual.

I definitely feel better about this team after the tournament. Still a long way to go though. I'd think they'd look pretty good for March as long as they split Seton Hall & Auburn assuming conference play is about 9-9. On the bubble though.

I don't know about any set plays, but it seemed to me like Bolton was getting by the guy guarding him up top and finishing well at the rim. I think he was using some screens too though.

Can’t afford a loss to Iowa or otherwise 2 more in non-con. Unless of course we get to 10+ conference wins.

Agreed, they look better than originally thought. I definitely think Garza will cause some problems for the bigs. They'll have their hands full with Tyrese and Bolton though, I think their guards lack the athleticism needed to guard them effectively.

If I was the coach the game plan would be to attack the rim (Garza) at all costs to get him in foul trouble early.

I think a lot of missed shots at the rim from penetrating guards will be Conditt putbacks the more minutes he gets.

Last year in the NCAA they attacked him just because he was too slow to defend. He is an elite half court offense player though, much as some here don't like admitting it.

I would agree we did a much better job driving to the basket.after Seton Hall's initial 2nd half push during which we settled for jumpers. My guess is dribble penetration was a timeout focus.

Time is approaching where Conditt should start. IMO he gives ISU a shot blocker to counter defensive lapses by guards. IMO he is also a better rebounder than Young and maybe Jacobson. Young's rebounding was bad in the Bahamas and rebounding is a issue bigger teamas well. My biggest concern starting Conditt w/b staying out of foul trouble.

Prohm is a super nice guy, but my concern, can he (or his staff) develop players who are intense, focused.and have a mean streak to be physical. Which is required of really good defensive and rebounding teams.

I loved the guards driving the basket. We won't win games this year with the old "run down the court and throw up three pointers." Obviously our shooting isn't consistent enough, and the competition is too good. Being a threat from the perimeter, mid-range, driving the basket, AND counting on some points from the 4 and 5 positions is our best chance. Every player on the court has the talent for it to be "their night". If we keep the opponents guessing on whose night, we will be successful.
