Great Expectations: Turnaround Potential

I am tired or reading about expected low expectations; such as Mac is the best we can do, we can't afford a good coach, if we get a good coach he will leave. I think we should expect a lot more. Look at what KSU did in one year. We beat them two years in a row and were better than them last year. Snider had been there quite awhile and had done a great job, but he had lost many of his assistants who had contributed to that success. Losing assistants also means losing recruits. They hired a new coach whose career had been as an assistant. With a new coach and a freshman at quarterback, they beat 4th ranked Texas this weekend. In Mac's 12 years, ISU did not have a victory of that quality. Why shouldn't ISU fans expect that our team is capable of what KSU has accomplished this year. KSU started out struggling, but they have continued to improve and they are gaining confidence. ISU has a lot of talented players, what they need is is an injection of young enthusastic coaches who are willing to make major changes. I think that it is possible that with the right new head coach and young aggressive assistants, ISU could quickly return to fighting for the north title.

Great things can happen at ISU. If you put the right kind of product on the field, the revenues will follow. One advantage ISU has is that the people of Iowa will get behind a sucessful college team. Give the fans a winner, and they will put up the money to support continued success.
