Greater Fan support Needed !

I was a little disappointed Thursday night with the overall fan support... I would like to have seen a little more craziness, louder 3rd down stands, and a frenzy for an opener.

Grant it, some will tell you "give me something to cheer for", but again the game was close throughout. Fans talk about "taking the program to another level" and through ticket sales we did. The atmosphere of the fans that attended however needs improvement.

Anyone else watch the opening entrance for Virginia Tech ? That game was unique with other emotions surrounding it HOWEVER... the jumping up and down and CRAZINESS by ALL the fans not just the student section is what I believe Chizik was calling out for. STILL way to many casual fans and not enough FANATICS ! :chatterbox:

JUMP AROUND ala Wisconsin... we didn't even have the student section jumping around Thursday night when that song played let alone the WHOLE stadium like Wisconsin.

Critique and analyze the team's play but I would have to say our fans were just as layed back and not at another level Thursday night.

Fan support Thursday night C+

Come on Cyclone Fanatics on here... get your sections up !
Get crazy... not matter the score ! We need to be LOUDER ! :biglaugh: No matter what the score or the season record this year.

Go Clones !

There were close to 50,000 fans there. For a Thursday night opener vs. a MAC school, I think the fan support was just fine.

Absolutely. Overall I was VERY impressed by the turnout. I wasn't sure what to expect from a Thurs night, but the fans came out and made a great day of tailgating out of it. Can't stop thinking about Sat already. I trust Chizik will have these boys ready to beat the hell out of UNI.

Fan suport in #'s was good... don't get me wrong... what I would like to have seen was a more active crowd. Frenzy, nuts, LOUDER crowd. A WOW crowd. A different crowd than what I saw in terms of Thursday night. Kind like what we wanted to see from the team. We were looking for somethin different, new this year from the coaches and players. What I guess I'm tryin to say is let's take the number of fans and make it a WOW crowd. To see the likes of Wisconsin or the crowd bouncing around like TECH yesterday is what I'd like to see more of. Quality over quantity... or BOTH would be GREAT !

The atmosphere was weak...but everyone was feeling like they just got punched in the face watching that horrible effort. What do you want from us, it felt like the Mac years all over again.

The crowd WAS very loud. Even when we weren't doing well, the fans were on their feet, making noise - helping the defense.

Eventually, after the offense continued to sputter and the defense gave up 3rd down conversion after 3rd down conversion - the fans lost a bit of their energy.

If you want an ISU vs. CU '05 type of atmosphere, the players need to play like it.

I love getting crazy for the team. When "Jump Around" plays however, I really just want to hide my face because it is lame and over-done.

I am not sure how many Cyclone games you have been to, but this is a fanbase that for whatever reason doesn't get crazy for the sake of getting crazy. Make a good play, play a solid game, etc, and that place will be loud.

If fans had not shown up or were not into the game right out of the gate, you'd have a case. But neither were even close to being correct.

Imagine how loud the place would've gotten had Shaggy made that field goal in the first half. Or had we been winning...

Maybe I just wasn't paying attention, but did they even play "Jump Around"? I was pretty sure that Pollard scrapped that last year because it was a blatant rip-off of a Wisconsin tradition that we did a poor job of copying.

We changed the intro music to a blatant ripoff of the bulls and NU, so why not just play jump around every timeout and go full circle.

Just please no more Sweet Caroline, that is much more offensive.

I agree. No more Sweet Caroline. Maybe they could play it 15 minutes before the game starts. Most people are in their seats by then and the 2 or 3 people who actually enjoy the song being played can sing along, dance or do whatever. At least by doing it that way they can get it over with and be done.

The ONLY time Sweet Caroline should be played is after the game and only IF we win. You DO NOT play it during the game at ANY point. The songs lyrics say "good times never felt so good"....playing that after the opponent scored a TD was possibly the MOST EMBARRASSING thing I have been privy to in my 18yrs of Cyclone football (and believe me in 18yrs I have seen ALOT of embarrassing things!).

The song has a place, but it is after the game...only after a win. At that point, it would be a hit.

Yeah.. they played "jump around" beginning of the 4th quarter again and I looked around in disappointment seeing hardly anyone get involved... Yeah.. the opener wasn't going lights out on the field but that doesn't mean the fans can't help spark some life...

Again.. the #'s were GREAT!
I just felt the "action" in the stands was similar to the play on the field... same 'ole same 'ole...

Chizik made a call out for the loudest crowd in the Big 12 - win or lose... for that I give the crowd a C+ on Thursday.

It's a marathon not a sprint like so many compare the new era to, so all I'm saying is I felt the crowd didn't BRING IT . There will beplenty of UNI fans again this year like last year and we need to lay down both on the field AND in the stands... THIS IS OUR HOUSE !
And to the comment Cyclone stadium doesn't get up and crazy just for the heck of it.... WHY NOT ?

WHY NOT IOWA STATE ?
WHY NOT Wow the Big 12 or whoever comes in with a WOW crowd... not just when things are going good.

Again..

Also....the Jump Around needs to go back into hiding. JP scrapped it last year...why try to bring it back? Ridiculous. I think a Hawk fan could come in with intentions of screwing around with the AV stuff during the game and do a better job than our guys do who are supposedly on our side!

I'm sorry, I find your headline to be aggravating. Sure fans can be louder, up more, get there earlier and stay later. However, after the fans ponied up the money, showed up, and were being loud for this team we don't need to be told that greater fan support is needed.

Right now the fans will be showing great support if we have the same atmosphere at UNI.

I am tired of posts labeling who is a worthy fan, who is not, and why.

Nothing personal, just did not need to be told greater support was needed this morning.

Wasn't tryin to be aggravating.... or maybe I was.
It's frustrating and aggravating to get 50,000 fans and all the excitement for a new season but because some things were not going our way on the field and still a close ball game I just felt the crowd coulda done more. It's NOT ENOUGH to just show up. It's NOT ENOUGH to sell 39,000+ season tickets. It should be aggravating because I honestly think the crowd was a lot like the team Thursday night. AGGRAVATING. The loss hurts and the players will go back and look at tape and try and do better. Chizik said the team didn't play with emotion.. toughness.... Well I think the crowd didn't show enough emotion. First down after Meyer's interceptions for Kent State should have been our loudest.. not wait till 3rd down or on the goal line. 12th man needs to play all downs especially on defense not just 3rd down.

Tough love I guess is what I felt about our crowd. Good attendance.... now we just need to BRING IT !

(Sorry if too harsh... just want different atmosphere win or loss)

Go Clones !

I was going to put this in a new thread, but this seems appropriate here. Yesterday I was impressed with the continued support ISU fans appear to be giving. What's my measuring stick?? The number of people wearing ISU apparel around the malls in Des Moines.

My wife and I live about 1-1/2 hours NE of Des Moines, so we only get down there to do some major shopping every 4 - 6 weeks either at Jordan Creek or Valley West. Ever since the announcement of the Chizik hiring, I have seen more and more ISU apparel down there - not just in store fronts, but being worn around by people supporting the team. Yesterday morning my wife decided she needed to get out of the house for a day, so we packed up the youngens and headed down to Valley West. After the game on Thursday night, I was curious how many ISU shirts and hats I'd see. I was pretty impressed with the number of people is Des Moines who appear to still be rooting for the Clones. I think this speaks volumes about the positive fan support for ISU and Chizik, regardless of the results during his first year.

Everyone wanted a win, sure, but I think most people realize that it will take a couple seasons to get the peices in place - the athletes and the schemes - to really have a breakout year.

No that was not too harsh, it is/was the truth. ISU fans sit on their hands too much, we are about the only ones in our section yelling. It is just too quiet.

i know that 50,000 people were in attendance and thats all fine and dandy but if 30,000 of them are silent then it really doesnt matter. i agree, especially with the 3rd downs. thats when fans can have a huge influence...forcing false starts, delay of games, just causing problems when the offense cant hear. we didnt do that.

a great example was the auburn game last night. k-state was losing their lead late in the game and the auburn fans were INTO the game. i mean they were loud. the k-state left tackle couldnt hear the quarterbacks cadence. this caused him to get off the ball slower and the aubrun DE on that side just ate up freeman for about 4 straight plays...qb hurries, a sack and a forced fumble which was returned for a td.
