I've considered purchasing a weighted vest to add something to my walking. Anybody ever use one of them? Did they make much of a difference? Which one did you purchase?

I've thought of that too, but I am worried overtime they will wreck my knees (bad knees are a lovely family trait). I too am curious...

I bought one that was in the clearance aisle at walmart, I use it walking on the treadmill and it definitely feels like it's working, low speed moderate incline and my heart is beating and I'm sweating after 20-30 minutes. It goes up to 40 pounds but I think I only have 25lbs of weight in it right now.

I don’t remember the brand but make sure you don’t get one with the sand in them, make sure the weight distribution is even.

If you go too heavy too fast then yes. It’s also the reason you shouldn’t use ankle weights.

I almost bought some ankle weights to work on some hamstring strengthening but was glad I decided against it just because there's other ways to do what I was trying to or ways to craft something similar.

The kids make it nearly impossible to get into a workout groove

They get sick so often and pass that along to the rest of us. I'm week 4 on a chest thing and the kids are already sick with something else now.

Only a matter of time before it hits me. Beyond frustrating

I use one for pushups and dips.

Advice needed: I'm down about 25 pounds, but I've reached a bit of a weight loss plateau the past couple weeks. I've only lost about 1/2 a pound over the last two weeks even though I feel like I've eaten fairly well (reducing carbs/almost eliminating sugar, higher protein, intermittent fasting, strength training and walking).

I'm concerned that the weight loss the past couple of months has somehow messed up my metabolism or if it is just normal part of weight loss. Going into Thanksgiving and holiday's I'm worried that a slow metabolism could derail some of the gains I made. I also don't want to get discouraged and fall off the wagon.

Anybody dealt with weight loss plateaus before? If so, how did you break that plateau?

Congrats on the weight loss!

No real advice but I think just sticking with what you've done to establish and keep habits will help.

Per the holiday season, fasting/taking some good time off after the big meals usually helps me and making sure to also get a good walk or two in.

Plateaus happen and are normal. Just keep doing what you have been doing. Don't cut more calories as that isn't sustainable. Weight will eventually keep going down. A fitness guy I follow (Jordan Syatt) has done mini-cuts in the past to show how weight loss works. He closely tracks his weight and at certain points it does stall out or even tick back up(sometimes for awhile) but then it will eventually take another drop. I scrolled through his social media and found this as a way to explain it. I couldn't find his actual weight tracking graph but it's in there somewhere. Just keep consistent over time and you will see results!

When I get back from Turkeyday roadtrip I am going to have to add in biking at the gym. Didn't bike as much this summer. Think I am fine aerobically for an old folk, can walk for miles on my walkabouts but got winded climbing the Miss River bluff stairs last week. Thinking some shorter but more intense anaerobic rides after weights or maybe on alt days. Got the time to pop over everyday, just not the motivation so maybe keep at three days/week and just make it a longer visit. Might even try some runs on the indoor track. Haven't run in a long time but would like to run a short "family run" with grandniece next spring or summer. Could use that as motivation.

Your body actually has a number that it wants to maintain. From what I've read it's related to biological defenses against starvation or malnutrition. I can go below my body's preferred number about 215 but I feel sluggish or low energy. Takes a long time with good habits to get into the visceral fats which are the dangerous fats for your health.

Just be patient and consistent. It will eventually break with good habits.

Vests distribute the weight better but you can achieve the same results with back pack or hiking pack. Just throw whatever into it to get desired weight.

Also hust seems like something you already have around vs. buying a whole new contraption.

Backpacks csn also be a natural core strengthener.
