Thought everyone could use a little reality check and a break from all of the negative threads regarding the men's basketball team.

Here are the facts:
- Finished the non-confernce schedule with an 11-4 record.
- Three of the four losses were against Cal on their home court, Duke at a neutral site, and UNI. Those are three NCAA tourney teams folks, not the end of the world.
- The loss to Northwestern will be our only 'bad' loss come the end of the year and that came at another 'neutral site'.

At the start of the season I expected us to finish the non-conference at 12-3 so we are not that far away. It will take 20 wins to get to the big dance and while it won't be an easy run in conference we really only need to play 500 ball the rest of the way (8-8 conference record) and get 1 win in the Big 12 tourney to get to 20.

My guess is that this board will be singing a bit of a different tune after we win our first game in the big dance and are 1 win away from the sweet 16.

It will all come together folks. You just gotta have some faith!

This is an outstanding post..well said. Let's see what happens.

No, the sky is not falling... but the prospects for this season, McD's support, and CB's draft stock most certainly are.

you're the crazy one. how the **** is this team going to beat Missouri twice, let alone once? How is this team going to win 4 on the road, let alone one?

Hope isn't a strategy. We also hoped that better talent, a deeper bench, and a new practice facility would show some measureable improvements too.

Yeah. I agree. Nothing tells me we will see anything outside of one upset this year to get excited about.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results.

Different year same story.

The sky fell over the last couple of weeks, but now we'll see how quickly we pull ourselves out of the reckage and get back on our feet.

A dismissal and a suspension. The coach is doling out the tough love that many of you were calling for after the Duke game. Suspending Colvin was specifically suggested on this site several times over. For once, some of the CF'ers got exactly what they asked for. Personally, I agree with the move. What GMac has done over the last couple days is more than the nothing that we were expecting.

I for one hope that this is the turning point, the week that fires up the team, rock bottom. Today's game was garbage, but I'm guessing so was morale. GMac put his coach pants on, and it's time for the team to respond now that those boundries have been reestablished for a change. Over the next couple of weeks the team will respond, the question is; for better or worse.

Step 1 was Colvin's comments after the announcement of the suspension. I thought it was great that GMac put him in front of the camera for his thoughts. He's forcing Colvin to do some of the growning up that he needs and personal accountability does actaully matter on this team. While I'm not sure we're done with all of the issues, they are finally being dealt with head on.

I'm just glad that we've chosen SOME direction.

Outside of Texas and Kansas our talent level is comparable to every other team, except Neb and Colorado who are significantly worse. This team is capable of a 4th place finish, but watching them play has all the makings of a 8th place finish. Terrible FT shooting, poor rebounding and sloppy defense will doom our ability to shoot the ball.

Thank you for this post as I think that many of the negative threads are more than a little over the top. I understand the frustration as I think there are many concerns I see with this team. Instead of trying to determine who is to blame for these I will take the easy way out and just say it is obvious this team lacks chemistry. Understandable given the amount of time they have all played together but you would expect to see signs of improvement in this regard as the season progresses. With the dismissal of players and suspensions it is obvious this isn't one big happy family (careful McD as some of us our seeing a pattern).

I would admit we have about as good a record as I thought the team would have at this point, but I expected them to be improving weekly and playing some of their best basketball of the season heading into Big 12 play but the level of play is stalling out and maybe even heading into recession.

I agree 8-8 and a big 12 tourney win gets this team in the tournament, but this does not look like a .500 big 12 team. If they can achieve this all will be well with Cyclone Nation...heck even if we actually beat someone were not suppose to then it will be Kumbaya time. However, don't even think for a minute this team is going to beat Texas or KU coming up...this team will be lucky to not lose by double digits to those teams...but maybe a Missouri or KState will go down in Ames later in the season.

My worst defenders list includes...Lucca and DG....very slow feet and lazy in their ability to react to offensive movement.
