Looks like we had offered. Not sure how hard we were recruiting the kid, only a 2 star. Anyone know if this will be something that comes back to haunt us? Seems like we were in the lead at one point.

We were leaders, but he grew up a hawk fan so it was only a matter of time until after Iowa offered.

He's, from what I could gather, a talented kid. Would have been a great get. However, in a story from a couple weeks back after Iowa offered he stated that he grew up idiolizing Kirk Ferentz. Obviously, at that point ISU was not only out of the race, but I knew the kid didn't shoot very high with expectations.

He's very talented, and has the physical tools to grow into a successful player, IMO. However, he's from my neck of the woods and I've heard that he's tended to rely solely on his natural talent while at Chariton. That's been good enough to dominate high school competition, but it casts doubt on his ability to reach his potential at the next level.

Could he end up being a good player at Iowa that we'll regret not getting..... of course... but that's just the way it goes.

I don't blame the kid for wanting to play for his favorite team while growing up.... who wouldn't?

If there is any positive for ISU going forward IMO, is that more and more Iowa kids will grow up being ISU fans. We're already getting a LOT more Iowa kids to attend ISU than are attending Iowa, so maybe this can change in our benefit in the future.

However, we'll also have to become relevant on the football field as well. If we can do that, and combine that with all the kids we're getting to attend ISU, then I think we can turn the tables on Iowa.

Is this a kick to the stones or just a light tap?

Cyclone fans should all do our part in making negative derogatory comments whenever possible. When someone says anything positive about Iowa State football, then we should immediately respond with something negative. Like, Cyclones suck. Cyclones are a train wreck of a program. Etc.

That way we can encourage potential recruits that they should really consider going somewhere else, and not ISU.

you are reaching here - are kids' favorite teams those who perennially have winning or losing records?

makes no difference who has more iowa kids going to the university. hopefully kids chose to go to a university due to his academic interests/college fit as opposed to 'favorite football team'.

the whole 'star thing'..........as is in this thread - generally - no biggie, only a two star - and then look thru the 1st commit thread - and compare the two - our first commit having 0 stars assigned him on rivals........

Can't blame him really. While both Paul and Kirk are on the hot seat... Kirk's has been warm for about a while and he is still there. Odds are better Kirk will be around for 4/5 years than they are for Paul.

Who cares? Cyclones should rejoice when tepid commits turn tail and run to a place to hide out. In Clone ball you will be counted on to do your damn job - if not you will be exposed and everyone will know you suck! Hokball is all about cya and conservative. Clone Ball is every man is an island and he needs to protect his turf. Harsh reality of our current state. Clones take the hits and keep on rolling - GO CLONES!

That's usually how it works when everything's going downhill.

:jimlad: Sorry, I just couldn't resist that one.
