Hotels near Chicago

Yep. I like Wicker Park nightlife better on average than downtown (but downtown has a lot more - so depends on the mood, what you want, etc). Urban Holiday Lofts is in a great area - right near Wicker Park which can be bumping. Another good one in the area is Holiday Jones, which is on Division Street and right near the Bedford, which is a great bar/lounge that used to be a bank vault. For anyone interested, there is some good nightlife near Damen/Division (including one of my favorite places that has become extremely popular - Pub Royale). Similarly, if anyone wants to stay downtown in a pretty nice hostel, then there is Freehand Hostel kind of on the Streeterville/River North border. Has a good hipster-ish cocktail lounge in it and there's another good one right next door - and close to River North nightlife too.

Love Wicker Park though, but not sure how many people would go for it here. I kind of wish the boutique hotel they're doing in Wicker Park was already open.

My real estate agent worked on the neighborhood zoning to get it approved and make sure it would be done in a way to help the area. Haha we probably have. Can't wait for it to open - the area needs it and I'm glad it's a boutique, not something like a Hilton Garden Inn. The neighborhood is great though for any young people more into hip, independent-ish neighborhoods who don't want to stay downtown but don't want to stay in the suburbs either and have no problem with either hostels or things like AirBnB.

There's also good shopping there. There's some more well known stuff (like Marc Jacobs, Nike, Levi's, Carhartt, Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, Dr. Martens, Aldo, TOMS), smaller but known in circles (Steven Alan, Scotch & Soda, Chrome Industries, G Star Raw, Free People, Akira), and good independent ones (like Mildblend - one of the best Jeans/denim stores in the US and best in the city). Outside of downtown, this area has some of the best shopping for clothing easily. Of course, you have to mention stuff like Reckless Records who just moved from down the street - awesome record store. Myopic Books is a great book store nearby too. Great food/nightlife too around there.

You have to pay to park at downtown hotels in most cities. Chicago isn't any different.

I would get a hotel near a train line out in the edge of town or the burbs and use that to get in and out. Itll save you money at least. But if money is less of an object, you have to stay downtown. Way more fun of an experience.

How far out do the L trains go? I've only ever stayed with friends and relatives there, but I seem to remember they went fairly far out?

I once saved an absolute ****-ton on a vacation to Seattle by staying in a cheap hotel by the airport and taking the light rail into the city every morning/night. It was like $2 a trip on the light rail, so I ended up saving hundreds of bucks over the course of the week compared to a downtown hotel.

Just wondering if doing something like that would be possible for people taking this trip?

The L train pretty much stays inside Chicago and doesn't venture into the burbs. A couple of them might go a couple of stops into the burbs like the purple line. Otherwise, you'll need to take the Metra train which caters more to the suburbs.

I know on the FAWcast today Mark said he plans on just taking the bus cause it is a straight 3 miles west from his hotel. The west-side of chicago (from the Attack Athletics Center to UC) is a pretty bad area, playing in basketball tourneys and being to Bulls games throughout my childhood, it is not the place you want to get caught or stuck at night especially while drunk. Obviously being on Public Tansit is different, but if I were to do it, I would take and Uber,Lyft, or Taxi. it is not as bad as the south side but isn't great. If anyone wants anyrestaurants or places to go see I'd love to give some recommendations

You're definitely right. I was just thinking for the people who were thinking about going to the Fan Meet-Up Bars and stuff before or after the game. But you're right with the #19 stopping at the doorstep of the UC. Just don't want anyone getting caught in a place they don't know.

Suggestion: The Allegro Hotel at 171 W. Randolph in downtown Chicago

At least five Cyclone fans, including me have separate rooms here. Pre-pay reservations starting Sunday night for a queen bed room are at $111 per night with various add-ons and other room sizes available. Parking within two blocks for $12 or $22 prepay with no in/out privileges; see second link below. It is only a 3.2 mile cab ride to the United Center. Pets stay for free with many amenities available for them. This boutique hotel was renovated in July 2015.

There are always open lots that you can pay for around the arena. They will probably be around 15-30 bucks. But that is local people trying to make a bit of money. The garage will probably be as good as you can find, but if you want to try your luck, there are plenty of lots.

Chicago burbs aren't always cheap is the kicker, depends on which one. Same goes for property taxes.

Ditto, and I have found parking for 20 dollars a day down town every time I have gone. May be a block or 2 from your hotel but oh well.

I used SpotHero once when I went to Lollapalooza and it worked out great. I got a QR code that I scanned at the garage and it let me in and out with no problems!

Are you sure it is a garage? And not a surface lot? There will be cheaper parking a few blocks away. Drive around and ask yourself if you will be comfortable walking there after dark (albeit with tons of other people). If so, then park there. I like parking close in the United Center's parking lots for $25.

I've never had a problem with Spothero, just read and follow the directions they give carefully. They also have a bunch of cheap lots in West Loop. You could park there and take the UC bus (http://www.transitchicago.com/bus/19/) back and forth to your lot.
