How annoying is the band?

The prom one is the only clever and funny one. The rest ball bigger than hoop, your socks united etc. are lame. Push the envelope don't have to go too far like South. Miss band last year but raise the bar a little.

If they want to chant, that's fine, but for the love of god find something funny to chant. "The ball is bigger than the hoop?" Singing "We're not gonna take it?" Of all the things to chant, how in the world do you settle on those two things?

Creativity is good but I had season tickets behind the band and it was the same, annoying chants over and over. Kudos to them for finally having creativity and coming up with some new stuff for the tourney, I love the band but the free throw chants were not unique all season long. If they are going to chant stuff during free throws, at least come up with some new things to say for each game, they have plenty of time to plan. Not trying to hate on the band, just looking for more creativity throughout the season rather than just in the tournament. It did not bother me all that much as they are usually drowned out by the crowd but when you could hear them, it was too repetitive.

Couple problems with that. First off, they aren't allowed to direct chants at a particular player/person, so they can't use specific names or numbers. This greatly reduces the ability to be creative and come up with new things every game. One of the favorite chants of many band members was for Michael Beasley, who had listed Spongebob Squarepants as his favorite TV show on his official KState bio. The band chanted, "Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? MICHAEL BEASLEY." This chant actually got Beasley to laugh while shooting a FT, and he missed it. So it's not like they haven't tried this stuff before, but if they tried that now, they'd get shot down.

Second, the line for what "official representatives of the University" can yell/chant is a fine line. There have been many chants that have been used once or twice and then shot down by mandate of Directors/Athletics never to be heard from again. This has also, over the years, dwindled the arsenal of chants that they use.

Finally, keep in mind that the chants aren't FOR YOU. They are directed at players, who don't hear them every game, and therefore don't find them repetitive. Chants rarely, if ever, are repeated during a game.

So, I'm actually kind of neutral on the whole thing. The chants were never really my thing while I was in band, but I do think it's ridiculous that people get this bent out of shape about it.

That being said, am I the only person here who's parents told them to just ignore someone that annoys them? Do you all think it's some sort of coincidence that the band has gotten more aggressive with their chants every time one of these threads has gotten traction on the forums? And now you got them so fired up this year they actually got mainstream press for their antics. And if our fans and some reporters are noticing, it's pretty easy band geek logic to think that at least a couple opposing players might get distracted by it too. You won't be stopping them now and it's all because you were stupid enough to let them know it got under someone's skin.

I must not have been paying attention during the season because I never heard the chants. I heard them during the tournament and liked them. I could see how they would get pretty old if they never changed. Still not 1/2 as annoying as boomer sooner or waving the wheat.

Basketball - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A regulation basketball hoop consists of a rim 18 inches (46 cm) in diameter

The size of the basketball is also regulated. For men, the official ball is 29.5 inches in circumference (size 7, or a "295 ball") and weighs 22 oz. If women are playing, the official basketball size is 28.5 inches in circumference (size 6, or a "285 ball") with a weight of 20 oz.

Just checking...

If you think "Cyclone Power" and "Let's Go State" are in the same category as "The ball is bigger than the hoop," then you need to re-think your life.

If "the ball is bigger than the hoop" upsets you, you need to re-think your life.

Edit: I was neutral on the band, didn't really care. It was only after ****** bags started ragging on our own band that I took sides. Seriously, if it matters that much to you, ******* write an email to JP. Otherwise, shut the **** up about it.
