one of my goals in working out and getting into shape is that i want to be able to dunk on a 10ft hoop. I'm 6'2" 185lbs and i've never been able to come close. the past few months i've really been working on my legs in hopes of dunking someday.

The summer before my sophmore year, I could 2 hand at 5'11" & 140lbs. I sprained my ankle bad in football sophmore year that I didn't treat properly and it took about 4 months to recover 100%, could never get more than a 1 hand dunk from that point on. Now....I can only grab the rim and am currently 6'2". But I am also 80lbs heavier then I was at 220lbs.

Are you a 1 foot jumper or a 2 foot jumper? I think some exercises are better depending on which you are.

I can still dunk, but it's a 50/50 proposition for me nowadays, which is embarrassing cause I'm 6'4" and there are a bunch of <6' guys at the 24-hr fitness that can dunk.

6'5 225. Have dunked before. I never played basketball so it was never of importance to me until the last few years (still of only slight importance).

Had a 30 inch vert in high school and was 6'4. Grab the rim with both hands from a stand with ease. But couldn't dunk.

I found that it's a lot about mental. I tried over and over my junior year to dunk and was always so close. Once I was able to get down my first real dunk, I could do it all the time.

to be honest i don't know. I haven't attempted it yet, just been concentrating getting into better overall shape. I've been doing squats a lot and deadlifts, along with upper body as well.

Those hang cleans look like they'd hurt my lower back a lot. i wouldn't even know what weight to start with on those. I do 215lbs 5 times for dead lifts, so like half that for hang cleans? I'll have to research that one.

I'm 6'1" 170...

Also as posted a few posts above... Do you guys jump higher off of one foot or two?

Personally, I get about 3 more inches off of one foot

I jump off of one but I'm definitely slow-twitch. Most really explosive, fast-twitch guys jump off of two.

I could in college at 6'1 297. After fb my sr year I got tendonitis in my knees playing bball and stayed away from the ol' roundball for a few years.
Go figure at age 31 and 240pounds I can only get the bottom of the backboard, but I'm sure I run 12.4 miles now faster than I could have then.

That sir, is impressive.

Same... I wouldn't call myself slow, but I'm definitely not basketball quick. I was more of a spot-up shooter in high school ball and only drove to the hoop when I had a clear step/lane. Once I get up to speed I am decently fast. I'd like to say I'm more of a smooth player, but I think I'd be giving myself too much credit lol

What? That puts your hands at almost 2 ft above the rim with a conservative wingspan.

was a post player so didn't have many opportunities as I can't dunk flat-footed. I did however swat the **** out a guy who tried dunking on me...that was the last time he went in the lane against me.

I'm 5'11 and in highschool could barely get rim. I realised that I was never going to dunk and that shots beyond the arc were worth more points so I spent all my time there.

I could one hand dunk in HS, and could reverse a volley ball (or from a stand still). I would probably get laughed off the court if I tried to do that today. Or possibly end up in the ER.

I'm 5'9" and can grab the rim. I'm confident that if I trained in plyometrics I could do it... but that's too much effort.

None of that is exaggerated. I bet if I put two weeks of dunking practice together I could get some coordination down and actually dunk... But I never did.

A lot of 1-footed dunking is practice. Being smooth coming up to the rim.
