I doubt it would take them that long to prepare the announcements. They have those things ready to go.

Hell, they’ve probably been preparing for it for over 10 years.

In fact,.....

So if I need to pivot I guess maybe Scotland? I guess we could do Amsterdam although I’ve been there like 5 times.
Scotland would be nice? And do you have to, this would be a historic time to be in the UK, although everything royal related would probably be packed

And Ms3 (sorry, I can’t quote it): we definitely have but you could broaden it to other topics too. Although it’s moot now

Seems like it was only 3 days ago that it was framed as doctors saying she needs to rest. I guess when you're almost 97 things move quick.

As well they should. A huge anachronism at this point, even if you're simply maintaining tradition for its own sake.
Disagree. The Monarch, while without any real power, does have one majorly important function for society. Reminding everyone they are all in it together -- they have a shared history, and a shared future. Politicians can't do that anymore, because of the vitriol of the 24 hour news cycle and social media. The Queen has the power to unite, encourage, comfort. She's done a pretty damn good job of it.

Who could do that in the US now? When is the last time one person united the US like that?

edit- she has gone while I was writing this. I hope William is up to the task, and Chuckles doesn't screw it up in the interim.

I think she met with the in-coming and out-going prime ministers just a few days ago. Working until the end.

I am no fan of monarchy, but I do admire those who are dedicated to their job--and she was.

Have you read the conversations going on between people in the UK? I don't think maintaining the lavish lifestyle of an anachronistic, hereditary position is doing it for them. Having a monarch wouldn't sort out our issues either.

And we do kind of have “nobility” here in the states; it’s just based on inherited wealth.

I also think your post is a credit to Elizabeth II’s reign. Because you could just as easily have someone odious as king/queen who acts as a divider not a uniter
