I am willing to give this season and next season passes. I feel like he has completely revamped the offense for this team, but it could be because of the personnel we have. He is used to coaching shoot-first point guards versus what Monte is. He has been dealt a very unique player in Burton who wants to be a street ball player half the time and is a one on one player. He has also inherited extremely short post players who has rarely been asked to box out in the past.

I feel next year we will see a team that Prohm likes to put on the court, minus the posts. We will be extremely young, but should be more athletic and hopefully taller. I think we will see growing pains, but will also see tons of potential, however, that's if he is as good of a coach as many on here seem to believe.

He didn't "inherit short post players that have never been asked to box out".

These are all his posts.

Fred didn't leave him any posts that are still around and that's a problem, but their habits are not to be blamed on Fred.

I have been very impressed with Prohm this year. I think what he has gotten out of this team has been very positive. I am not sure I always understand what he does in terms of who is on the floor, however, that is very hard to judge. We have been in every game even when we are playing poorly. When we play well, we are almost impossible to beat. When playing well depends on shooting from outside, it is pretty hard to expect perfect results all the time. We don't have great inside players. The best is Burton, and that in itself shows a great weakness in the team.

If Prohm can recruit, he will do well, and therefore I say we get behind him, because when the fan base is behind the coach, it is easier to recruit.

I guess that's very true, good point.

Yes we have been in games, but idk what game we have played really well and blew anyone out besides the cupcakes. The biggest thing I dislike about prohm (and I feel makes him an average coach versus a good coach) is I feel he bases things on emotion versus logic. The best coaches in all sports can learn to take emotion out of their decisions and make decisions based on what they are seeing rather than feelings.

I'm assuming he could probably do better since he's already pulled in one of our best recruiting classes.

It would be interesting to see how the recruiting classes would stack if you counted grad transfers and juco transfers as parts of classes. Fred brought in some fantastic transfers.

I'm curious to see what he does without Fred's star players.

I really like our 3 man class so far, but we have such a large deficit to make up for, we will need to pick up some more talent this spring, and then follow it up with a couple more top 100 HS kids next fall (2018 class).

Prohm seems like he's a solid coach, and a solid recruiter, but we're behind from 2-3 average to bad classes in a row.

The wild card could be if Lard or Kasongo ends up being really good, or if McNeill or Lewis end up blowing up and playing like top 50 recruits.

I get why everyone should give him a pass this year... but next year with having Jackson wiggington Lewis lard and Solomon with a year under his belt If we are still playing turd ball I'll be over prohm. I don't even mean they need to have a good record. I'm talking about playing team ball, and just a tiny hint that prohm wasn't 100% piggy backing on Fred's players talent would be enough for me.

I just want to get to the tournament this year so we can send our seniors out like they deserve.

Next year I think will be alot less stressful and we can watch the guys develop, I think the year after that will give us a good indication of where we are headed with Prohm.
I hope they get to the tournament for the seniors also, but if the they don't I hope it's because of their attitude and lack of focus (first part of first half at Texas) and not because of poor or lack of coaching

Prohm is going to have a great one in Wiggington and another solid player in Lewis. However, lets not get carried away with rankings because they don't take into consideration grad transfers.

Royce White, Will Clyburn and Deandre Kane would have all been the equivalent of a 5 star one-and-done.

The high school route offers a long-term consistency but I'm not sure the talent is better...just a different route.

Yeah, never underestimate the recruiting ability of a good coach who is actually planning on staying at the college level (vs one who was not).

So Fred didn't bring in talented players? Well two of the players that Fred recruited are going to have their jerseys hung from the rafters. Not bad for somebody who couldn't recruit.

I'm talking long term. He did a great job until the NBA rumors started swirling, and then it started to go down hill. I can't blame incoming freshmen for wanting to commit to a coach who is likely going to be there throughout their career.

The thing you have to remember admit Prohm, is that he is still a very young coach. He only has 5 years of head coaching under his belt. It seems like the last thing for coaches to master is in-game strategies like substitutions, fouling, timeouts, and when to change a defense. These are the things that just take time and repetition.

Compared to a 10 year coach, there are so many situations that a younger coach has not yet even seen. As he gets older he'll experience all the different scenarios within a game, and hopefully learn the best way to handle them.

My order is:
Recruiting is the key, then it's getting the players to buy in, then it's opponent scouting, then in-game coaching.

So you're over Prohm after one full year with his own players? Are you 16?
