Ok, so the earth is flat with the north pole being at the center. Why is it warmer around the equator? And can you fly over the south pole in a plane?

Obviously, this is how the sun moves.

Their response would be:
"Have YOU ever flown over the South Pole? No? Well then how do you KNOW that you can? Those that claim they have are just part of the conspiracy hiding the truth."
or
"When the plane reaches the pole the magnetic field messes with their instruments and they are redirected back toward the disc. There are no real landmarks there so it isn't obvious to the pilot."
or
"I am just an idiot and will believe any cockamamie thing I read."

"Gravity as a theory is false. Objects simply fall. " hahahahaha oh that FAQ is just loaded with gold!

Well as always, there is a nugget of truth. There are a few "problems" with the theory of Gravity. It may not so much be a problem with the theory of gravity and more quantum mechanics.

This line is great..

"What is the ultimate resolution? We know we live in a quantum world, but we can't figure out a way to describe gravity without swearing. And that is infinitely annoying."

I get that. There is much about science we are yet to understand. And I am quite certain as history has proven many times that there are things we "understand" today that will be proven wrong. However, rejecting the theory of gravity and instead injecting their theory that "things just fall" is the laughable part for me. I mean, 1st law of motion man!

Well of course, but it is just a theory of why or how things fall. I guess these Flat Earthers just don't want to think any further and can only comprehend things as up or down.

People have a strong need for a sense of belonging. I think most of this is just rooted in lack of knowledge about the subject. Along comes someone that convinces you of one thing, and you have no prior knowledge to refute their claim, so you believe it.

That being said, most of what I believe is just a culmination of what other people have told me to be true. I don't have any proof the world is round but I've taken the word of some pretty smart people to believe that it is.

From the interviews I've seen, this is the center of their argument. If you have personally seen something, it must not be true. I'd be interested to know if any of these people are into history and/or holocaust-deniers.

Another person hit it on the head, this whole thing isn't about science. It's about a need for belonging and/or wanting to be a contrarian. My guess is, not-so-deep-down, many of these folks don't believe this stuff, but they enjoy the camaraderie and the sense of community it gives them. At least, for the sake of humanity, I hope that's true.

Come on guys. You all know that the Earth is flat and it sits on the back of a tiger, and the tiger stands on the back of a giant Elephant, and the Elephant is on the back of a giant Turtle. After that? Well, after that it is turtles all the way down the line.

Is the giant elephant on the back of one turtle or four turtles - kind of like the elephant is wearing turtleskates?
