We just turned over to this game, and I said something like "Oh, a Dave Armstrong game. Nice."

My 6 year old pipes up with "DAVE ARMSTRONG? HE WAS THE FIRST MAN ON THE MOON!"

So being the stickler for accuracy that I am, I responded with..................

Yes. Dave Armstrong was the first man on the moon. He and Gary Thompson went down in the lunar module while Brent Musberger stayed in the orbiter. Fran and Doug Gottleib were pitching in from mission control.

I love hearing Dave Armstrong's voice. It means there is a Big 12 basketball game on TV.

I think Musberger is still in the orbiter to this day.

That's good stuff. Never understood why people around here don't like him. Maybe they will change their tune when they find out he was the first man on the moon.

With you on this. Its nice having our games on ESPN, but I really miss the Big XII Network. I loved Doug Bell in the studio and always having a crew that new what they were talking about when it came to Big XII Basketball. That being said, its awesome that Manzer and Armstrong are still doing Big XII games.

Has anyone seen Doug Bell this year?

Are you sure Musburger wasn't pitching something?

Armstrong is good for some Big 8 nostalgia. It's too bad Gary Thompson quit doing analysis. I loved listening to him talk about the game, but I'm probably biased. Fraschilla and Musburger have done a good job, but Big Monday to me will always be Ron Franklin and Jon Sundvold.

He was the KU network announcer. So there is that.

One of my favorite Armstrong-isms was in either 2004 or 2005. Stinson tried his little teardrop, and Dave says:

"Here's a floater, but it won't go down."

Wish I could remember the exact game.

My favorite Dave Armstrong quote was, "Wow! There is justice in Minnesota!" ISU was playing at Minnesota around 1991-1992 and Justus Thigpen made an and-one in the closing seconds to win the game. That play, and Armstrong's call, are memorialized in a show about the history of ISU basketball that's been playing the past couple years on the Cyclone TV channel.

Yep, that's the exact definition of a floater.

I'm with you on all counts here, although the best memories that Armstrong bring back for me are of the '99-'00 team. He probably had 3/4 of our B12 network games that year. It's cheesy as hell but the line I'll always remember from him was from the B12 tournament semifinals game against OSU. "This game has had more ties than a Haberdashery!" Always made me chuckle. He RAVED about Stevie Johnson in that tournament, and rightly so.

Also agree on Big Mondays with Franklin and Sundvold. They were probably the smoothest pairing of announcers I've ever listened to. They had excellent knowledge and never tried to be bigger than the game. I was really disappointed when they weren't retained, although it sounds like Franklin had it coming after he had his run in with the sideline reporter doing SEC games.
