It's a must win for the advancement of the program. Iowa isn't the worse team on our schedule. They appear to be at least a middle of the road P5 team. If ISU wants to become a consistent bowling team Iowa is the type of team that we must beat, especially at home.
They are better than Toledo, Kansas and likely Texas Tech. That's about it; that's why the first for are all must wins.

Yes, if we're looking to be in the college football playoff picture, we've got to win this. But even if we go undefeated, I think we get hosed out of the playoffs due to factors beyond our control.

This is a must win game in the same sense as the UNI game was a must win. We have to win the easiest games on our schedule if we want to have a shot at a bowl game. If we don't win I'll expect another 2-3 win season.

I would say for both teams. If we want to get back to mediocrity 6-7 wins, this one has to come.... I think Ross or Wade on the Fawcast yesterday put it well from the Iowa fanbase, this game effects them more than they lead on, I believe he said a 7-8 win Iowa team with an ISU win has a better fan following and support then a 7-8 win Iowa team with an ISU lose.....

But back to us, I think the first 5 games a potential wins and if we can get 4-5 of those, I think the fanbase will be more behind this team, I know I will be, I think execution will tell a lot too (if we show up have a competitive game and lose it will help also) but I think a lot of the fan frustration is based around Sam at the helm and not getting the W's, if we find a way in all 5 games that mode changes big time.....

It all depends what you consider a must win, if Iowa is a "must win" then the first 5 games are all must wins. Let's face it, ISU isn't going to start 5-0

I think for ISU to fully rebound from the mess the last 2 years, it's imperative to start 4-0 heading down to Tech. That's a great head start on getting back to a bowl, and momentum/confidence heading into Big 12 play.

When is the last time ISU started 4-0? Mac might have done that once. What about 5-0? These things are legitimately on the table. But Iowa, Toledo, and KU are must wins right now.

It would really suck to lose to Iowa and finish 5-7. Especially if Iowa only goes about 7-5.

Super Bowl = No.

To make it to a bowl = Critical.

This is a game I think could be close or Iowa could win by 21, but if we want any remote chance of making a bowl game, we have to win this game. I put our bowl chances at about 8% with the win and 0% without.

I was curious how many people consider this a must win for the Clones. As we all know, Iowa is one of the weaker teams we play this year. They are at best in the middle of the pack in terms of talent we play. I think it is crucial to get some confidence for the team before league play starts as the Big 12 is actually difficult. By the way it is hilarious hearing Iowa fans saying Minnesota is one of their toughest games...what..a..joke.

The same Minnesota team that would have beaten #2 TCU had they not fumbled at the 1 yard line? And then still had a chance to win it at the end of the game?

Well you can play what-ifs all you want, but they still lost. The what-ifs are what give so many ISU fans the delusion that we were actually good for a stretch in the Big XII North a decade ago:wink:

I honestly cannot believe the idiocy of some of Cyclone Nation - so worked over by the "Super Bowl" mind game the Hok fans have been playing with us for nearly 2 decades now to make themselves feel better about themselves for losing to ISU that you all will downplay the importance of a huge game for ISU in terms of bowl eligibility just so you can say to yourselves, "See - it's not my Super Bowl."

The kicker - you telling yourselves that "Hey - if we steal one more win against a more difficult Big 12 team, then facing an easier Iowa team is no longer a must-win game." While technically correct, you're complely missing the point of the concept of a "must-win" game. Iowa IS a must-win game precisely so a more difficult opponent later in the season when the pressure is on ISN'T. It's a much better position to be in later on in the season if 6 wins and bowl eligibility are already in hand as opposed to sitting on 5 wins desperately needing to beat an opponent that is probably better than you.

But hey - I guess to some Cyclone fans finishing 5-7 is more important so they can keep the "Not my Super Bowl" card in their possession. Personally, I'd rather gloat another year, make a bowl, and mock the Hoks for their Super Bowl comments.

It's too early to say Iowa is one of the easiest teams on our schedule. Based on last year, I'd say yes, but we've played just one game. That said, I think it's a game within 10 points, and I think (hope) ISU wins.

As for must win - if we have any hope of getting to bowl eligibility, it is. If ISU loses, it will be very difficult to find 5 more wins on our schedule.

The same Minnesota who would have been blown out if TCU could have completed a pass to wide open recievers who could have walked into the endzone.

Anyone can play the what's and if's game. Doesn't make the pathetic Big 10 West, including Minnesota, any better.

TCU was probably surprised to see a little defense being played. It's the only time they'll see it until maybe bowl season.

They lost to the #2 team by 6 this year and the National champs last year by 7.

Exactly right - it's the same #2 team that beat us by about 50 points last year. Minnesota is a legit team and they will be challenging for the BIG West this year.

I watched the entire TCU vs Minny game. Yes, TCU blew some chances and should have scored more, but the same was true for Minnesota. If Minnesota had a good QB, they'd be a top 15 team, IMO.
