SoI'm in Osceola on Monday for a funeral and head to Arby's for lunch. We were 2nd in line and had to wait like 5 minutes for someone to help us. There was a mother-daughter in front of us and a couple people standing waiting for their food (or so we all thought). When the lady behind the counter says she will help who ever is next the mother-daughter step to the register.

At that time the male standing off to the side aggressively yells "maybe you didn't see us standing here. Who the hell do you think you are?" He then approaches the two women like he is going to throw punches.
So I say "hey, watch the attitude, buddy".
Him- "you don't like my attitude?"
Me- "nobody likes your attitude."
Him (to his wife)- "oh I forgot. We are in the land of cowards."
At this point the two women, my mom and myself are like "**** you, buddy."
He continued to try to instigate a fight. We just tell him to get his food and hit the road. He continues to call iowa the land of cowards (probably 7 times total) while yelling at 3 women and a guy half his size.
I finally say "go back to wherever you are from and tell your friends never to come here. You aren't welcome."
He is still talking shot as he walks out and his feeble wife mouths "i'm so sorry" as she leaves.
He and his wife hop in a car with Texas plates and hop on I 35. As he drives off he has a gunrack in his back window with his most prized possessions on display for the cowards to fear.
Apparently they don't think too kindly of Iowa in the (self-proclaimed) great state of Texas.
Anyhow, just thought I'd share this with my fellow cowards. Whatever that means???

"To see the right and not to do it is cowardice."

Standing up for two women in front of a bully is the right thing to do.

How does calling someone out on their douchebaggery indicate they are a coward? Since I'm a **** in these types of situation I would have immediately gone to a heavy bashing of his understanding of the English language and even acted as though I have a grasp on it (I really don't but this guy is too stupid to realize that).

An interesting stat to back-up his "Iowans are cowards" comment: per capita, Iowa has the second largest National Guard (Army and Air combined) in the US. We're only second to Minnesota. We're also the most requested state to fill deployments as we're the most proficient across the board.

To avoid the thread being longer i omitted much of the crap being said back and forth. Literally the guy stood waiting for his food talking smack for like 5 minutes. I'm a little guy but there is no way I'm going to stand by and let him try to intimidate some women. I can assure you we all got a kick out of it after he left.

Back in the Civil War I think we had the most per capita too. We were just a young state at this time as well.

Stewo- I'm fascinated by this information and the Civil War stats from mapnerd too. I think it's ingrained in our collective DNA as Iowans. (all Midwest states for that matter)

Is there anywhere can I find this information? I'd love to dig through it-

Maybe he takes proficiency as a sign of cowardice.

To be honest, I can't remember exactly where I pulled my info from. I'm about 99% sure I got it from General Orr's state of the the military address from a few years ago. There is a ton of information out there if you dig around. And you're right about it being ingrained in our DNA to serve. The 34th Infantry Division has strong roots in Iowa, especially in the SW part of the state. The 1/168 Infantry has deep ties to WW1, WW2 and the current conflicts. The same with the 1/133. They actually have the record for the longest deployment of the current conflict as they did nearly 2 years between mobilization and time in Iraq.
