Those sales used to be awesome before everyone knew about them. I showed up 30 minutes early this year and didn't even try to go in when I saw the line. I've never been in it for the helmets and jerseys. It was always just a fun way to get some cool shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, etc for cheap.

The story behind that goes: Originally the sales crew tried it and was getting dingers and thought it may not go well. Then they asked the janitor to give it a try and it didnt affect him much (he seemed a little slow to start with).

The janitor was a grad of the local university and graduated with high honors. Well, using him (see picture in the post I replied to) really impressed the football coach at the school and they bought a bunch because if their high honors student didn’t seem any slower after the hit they must work.

And there is the story of how the University of Iowa adopted helmets for football.

I've got one that I'll sell you for $4,000.

The online auctions the AD used to do weekly in the mid 00's were awesome. Coach for a day (I did one of those), signed equipment, etc.

Those were awesome! I did the run out with the team and watch the game from the sidelines auction twice. Took my dad both times. My two favorite ISU experiences I've ever had.

I worked at ISU Surplus in college. Very little athletics equipment went thru while I was there. Sale is still on Wednesdays, on Airport Road. I worked in the Purchasing Warehouse, on campus.

Just out of curiosity, do you know why they stopped doing those?
