I would love for us to get a meaningful game instead of this game.

I'd love for even just a regional/conference swap kind of thing where ISU/KSU/KU etc. rotate to play Wisky/Minny/Nebb etc. for that 2nd or 3rd non conference game. Would be some good tailgating and likely some decent games in there.

I like the sentiment, but it is the same argument the Hawks used to say about us. Just reversed. The fact is that it is still a P5 OOC game that helps boost our SOS (which may or may not be important depending on the committee's flavor of the year). It is not like the Colorado vs Colorado State rivalry (I live in Colorado and it is the best example I could think of on a whim). Colorado has a legit argument that beating a Mountain West team has little plus, while losing to CSU would curb stomp their season's hopes and outside perception. Now since we play in the Big 12 SOS will be higher no matter who we play OOC, so losing the EIU game and adding another lower MAC school that is as close to an auto W as possible may have its benefits, especially if we contend for the conference yearly. However, that would be a less meaningful game not more meaningful. We'd still have a tougher schedule than SEC teams playing 4 ooc games with at least 2 being DII teams and another portion of the schedule against lower ranking cross division opponents. But I personally prefer having a tougher schedule, and think we benefit come bowl selection time.

Guys it was a joke. Relax. It is getting to be a valuable game the better we get. It is an exciting early season rivalry game. It generates a ton of interest locally and has the potential to become something exciting going forward outside the state.

I really thought it had a chance at the national scene from times like the '02 and '05 games but ISU's inconsistency has screwed it up.

The problem was that back then there wasn't the television coverage like we have today. I think over the next 4-5 years this series is going to gain some serious traction.

A Matt Campbell/Brian Ferentz rivalry could be great if Kirk ever retires.

I guess Notre Dame is going to have to wait a little longer for that series with Iowa they have been itching to have.
