Probably is. Two thoughts on this.
1. If everyone is tested so often, why do coaches need masks? They aren't any more likely to transmit or contract Covid than players. If players are safe to play, coaches should be safe to coach without a mask. At this point it is just about appearances and not at all about safety for them. (Off the field is obviously different)

2. The issue with the masks seems to be communication, especially on their headset. Why not just go full helmet with a built in microphone then? Just for fun, maybe a Darth Vader helmet for Halloween.

Coaches and refs wearing masks is all for show. They don't help if you are screaming in someone's face from 6 inches away. Coaches and refs are constantly pulling them down every time they actually need to talk to someone anyway. About the only time they wear them properly is when they are far away from eachother. There is also a ZERO percent chance coaches wear them in the locker room. College coaches are even worse. Like you said, it's all pointless anyway since they are tested constantly. All for show, but all they're showing is how to not wear a mask.
