It'd be stupid for Underwood to leave Illinois. Illinois in basketball can be a consistent high level school with the talent available in the Chicago area. The school has never been able to capitalize on it.

Illinois did back in the 80's and 90's.

@surly is this true?
the times of change are sweeping across the plains. Yet, we still beat the mighty cyclones, miraculously, which I am sure you remember well. I will view what happens from afar as I sit in my basement with my candy cigarettes and recline in grandfathers sacred rocker. Carry on mighty cyclones and fair ye well!!

You know for a moment I just saw the purple italics and assumed it was actually Surly’s response. That, and the fact that that is exactly what surly would say :D

I don't really understand the "can't hire turgeon, he's a kansas guy" argument. Dan McCarney was a hawkeye before the cyclones hired him. Dan Gable was a cyclone before the hawkeyes hired him. I'm sure there are a thousand other successful examples.

I wouldn’t hire Turg because I just don’t think he’s that good of a coach. Good starts but fades out bad

I think the window opened a couple inches wider with his performance this season. But I think this is his last chance to leave while still in his prime.

He’s a mid major coach who hasn’t made the tourney since Niang played here. Any fan base would melt down if he were fired.

I suppose a school could do "worse" than Turgeon ... probably guaranteed a winning record and reliable to reach NCAAT. But next-level appears elusive ... He had as many Sweet 16 appearances w/ Wichita State than he has had in 15-plus seasons since. Best shot at deeper run might have been '19-20, tied for 1st in Big Ten, but tournament was canceled.

Testifying
KState should move on if they are even thinking about it.
We haven't even started the NCAA tourney and it's behind Louisville and Maryland in pecking order.

That's the part of the business that sucks. For whatever quirks he has and crap we've given him, I think he's a good guy.
Yes, but it’s not like he’s walking away penniless, either.

I think he'd be a fantastic hire as an assistant for some young coach who getting their first big conference gig. Dude knows how to coach.

Way up there
Weber won't get the credit he deserves because of how great a league he coached in, good coach, would have been a tourney team in nearly every other league this year. I get why they would move on from him but they are unlikely to bring in a better coach.
