My son a little honked off he had switched before they offered this. Of course, also feeling the pain of paying about a third increase in tuition for juniors and seniors in engineering, in addition to the engineering tech fee.

this just makes me sad I'm not an incoming freshman. oh to do it all over again.

I think it'd be interesting to be a freshman again. Even in 2010, we still had all the Dens and study rooms as actual community space. They're all "rooms" now. Plus it'd seem like the bathrooms would be overcrowded. But man, there's a lot more excitement at ISU now. I bet that, with even more people around, would make for a fun time.

I'm kind of glad that there were 4000 less people on campus when I was in the dorms. That's a huge increase over 4 years. If enrollment goes up another 1000 next year they won't have anywhere to put them, unless they take over more off campus housing and turning it into "on campus" housing.

I had to live in a den with 5 other guys for a few weeks before getting paired with some loser Comp Sci major who was a senior. Yeah, a senior, in the dorms. If someone offered me $1k to move into a nicer place, I would have been happier then a pig in ****.

I know they're expanding Freddy (adding roughly 700-800 beds I believe), but I wonder if they are considering adding more dorm space.

I knew some seniors in the dorms; they all seemed a little "off" to me.

Definitely do the dorms as a freshman... It's not weird to do them as a sophomore, but you don't have to... But after that, you gotta get out.

They need to get there act together. Not enough room for the people they are bringing in. I'm all for more students, but only if the university can accommodate them.

Is there even room on campus for them to build more dorms? I think they're just about out of space.

Let's see, how do I put this... if you have to bribe an upperclassman $1000 to move out of the dorms, they're probably not going to spend it on anything cool anyways.

I think part of the problem is not that we are accepting more people, but that more people are choosing to accept the offer of admission. Our upswing in sports probably has a lot to do with it

I was a freshman in fall of 1996 and there was enough open rooms that I got my own in Willow for two years. I assume that is unheard of now.

But who wants to live in a true "dorm" environment anymore? Everybody wants their own space. The new buildings are suite-style or apartment-style, and now actual apartments are being used.

I wonder how many more students could be housed in a complex like Freddy if it were a similar setup to Friley/Helser. Double the current number?

Somebody told me that they are accepting people with lower RAI scores, I'm not sure if this is true though. Regardless, they need to figure out how to accommodate the students they will have. More dorms, dining halls, etc. might be necessary.

Open up the basement of Helser!

Anyway, I knew of 7 guys who were in the same rooms 4 years in a row. I wasn't big into the dorm life so once they tried closing Helser the first time it turned out to be a good thing, lived in Freddy through grad school. I personally thing the suites over by Helser were a complete waste of space.

Having sophomores in the dorms is good because it allows for continuity in floor traditions and it gives the Freshman some people to show them the ropes. But staying beyond that, other than special situations like exchange students, is just weird. The dorms were fun but at some point you have to move on.

Everybody should live in a shoebox with a complete stranger for two years, make friends, and move off campus for their last four years. Worked for me.
