More general tournament question — I thought I posted this in the round-of-32 thread, but looks like it may not have gone through — I apologize if it did and I'm re-posting. When's the most recent time when there were no 12-5 upsets, but an 8 vs. 1 or 9 vs. 1 upset in the same tournament?

When they drop the 2015 NCAA banner next year I wonder if they're will be applause

I'm sure it'll be a lot like the women's team when they drop the banner. There's definitely cheers, but it isn't the usual excited and rowdy cheers.

It's kind of hard to get excited for a banner when it just says what everyone already knew was going to happen before the season started.

Not sur about 2007, but in 2000, no 12s beat 5s and then that weekend both unc and Wisconsin beat 1 seeds when they were 8 seeds. Both of them went to the final four with identical 22-14 records.

Yes.

I remembered it happening in 2000, but not sure if it happened since then, without looking it up. I suppose I could do that, but — lazy today!

Still among the strangest tournaments (2000). Only 3 seed-upsets in first round (11 Pepperdine, 10 Gonzaga and 10 Seton Hall), but only 6 of top 16 seeds reached Sweet 16, and five of Elite 8 were 5 seed or below.
