Other tidbits:
ISU now has a 13-13 record in the tournament and 7-4 since a member of the Big 12.
ISU is 8-5 in the Round of 64.
The .800 winning percentage as a higher seed is tied for the 8th best for schools that have played at least 10 games as higher seed. (tied with Utah)
Here is top 10: (as of today's games)
1. Seton Hall 10-1 .909
2. Michigan State 35-5 .875
3. Connecticut 42-7 .857
4. Louisville 39-7 .848
5. Kansas 57-13 .814
6. North Carolina 73-17 .811
7. Kentucky 58-14 .806
8. Utah 16-4 .800
Iowa State 8-2 .800
10. Arkansas 27-7 .794
ISU is now 4-3 with a lower RPI (UConn is #32 and ISU is #33). That is the 8th best regardless of number of games and 4th best of anyone with at least 5 games.
(So if we are higher seed, but lower RPI - we are golden)
ISU is now 2-0 vs. teams from Connecticut (We beat Central Connecticut State in the Round of 64 in 2000)
It was ISU's first game against the Big East, but we did beat current Big East member Cincinnati in 1997 when they were a member of Conference USA.
In terms of ISU tournament teams, this year's team has the 4th most victories in school history. If we make it to the elite eight, it will be the 2nd most.
2000 32
2001 25
1996 24
1995 23
2012 23
ISU is now 5-7 when unranked going into the tournament. Only 19 schools have a better than .500 record when unranked.
And finally in preparation for Saturday's game -
ISU is 1-2 when playing in the Opponent's Home State
1995 Florida W
2000 Michigan State L
2005 North Carolina L
ISU is 0-2 vs. #1 seeds. Michigan State in 2000 and North Carolina in 2005 were the two #1 seeds we have played in the past.
This will be the first time that ISU has ever played the team ranked #1 in the AP Poll in the tournament. The highest ranked team that we have beaten is #5 Michigan in 1986. They were also the highest seeded team we have beaten at #2.
We have played Kentucky once in the tournament, losing to them 106-98 in 1992. That game marks both the most points ISU has ever scored and allowed in the tournament.
Kentucky will be the 4th school that ISU has played multiple times in the tournament joining North Carolina, UCLA (4 times) and Utah.
