This is shaping up to be bigger than first expected. Looks like ice and then a 70% chance of greater than 4" of snow. What does everyone think?

GFS calling for 5-6 inches in Ames, but NAM is calling for under an inch. GFS calling for 6-8 in Polk County, NAM is calling for 2-4. I'm guessing there is still a lot of unknown, but it does look like it 20-30 mph winds all day tomorrow.

yeah, we're supposed to hit 58 today, thunderstorms this afternoon, flood watch (creek on my way to work was already getting over its banks), 3-6 inches of snow tomorrow, then a high of 7F on Thursday with a wind chill of -15F.

NWS now forecasting 4-6 inches for Des Moines with locally higher amounts possible.


TIMING...RAIN WILL BEGIN TO CHANGE OVER TO SNOW ACROSS CENTRAL IOWA EARLY THIS EVENING. THE SNOWFALL WILL PERSIST THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT HOURS AND TAPER OFF TO FLURRIES WEDNESDAY.

Systems seems to be moving slightly SE. Totals dropped on KCCI from this morning to noon. Still showing around 4" for Des Moines, but only 90 miles NW of Des Moines it's about an 1.5". If it keeps moving SE then Cental Iowa may not get much.

Looks like it snows from about 3am through late morning right now.
