Okay...Im pretty sure there is already a thread about the guy but I didnt feel like going through, especially with drinking tonight. I will say this...I was impressed with his composure. Although he went 18-40 with 3 picks he still knew what he had to do to get things done. I dont think he is completely comfortable with out WRs yet because he doesnt know their abilities (besides Horne). I think as the season progresses we are going to see a very good QB. I just hope these big games right at the beginning of the season dont hurt his confidence. I really think we are in for an exciting year despite how poorly we played tonight.

Kudos to the coaching staff for sticking with him. How badly he was playing I wandered if we weren't going to see Barnett come off the sidelines to try and get a spark.

And this is why you aren't the coach.

It was his first ever big 12 game, give him a break. I thought he flashed signs of being a very good quarterback.

Though he did make a few throws that made me wanna pull my hair out (such as the pass to absolutely no iowa state player, just right to the panther player) I blame the offensive line for most of it. At some points the O-line was nowhere to be seen. They looked very inferior.
That said, Jantz looked a little antsy at times, but that'll happen in your first big game, and not knowing your receivers well yet.
He'll get better, I have high hopes.

I never said I'd pull him I said kudos for sticking with him, I'm almost certain it was discussed. Those first three quarters were hard to watch. Bad reads, bad decisions, 3 and outs. I didn't see those signs of a great quarterback last night, lets just hope he is at least serviceable.

I was really impressed with the way he seemed to settle down and play great football in the 4th quarter, great things are ahead.

Obviously Jantz didn't have a stellar first game statistically. I'll reserve judgment for the moment, however. It was his first game in poor weather conditions, he was obviously nervous, and his OL and WRs weren't doing him any favors.

All that being said, when he finally did settle down in the 4th quarter, he took over the game. He won that game for us. So for right now I'm letting the poor statistics go and focusing on the fact he won that game for us last night.

Great players make great plays when it comes crunch time. He played great in the last 6:30 of the 4th quarter. I have a feeling this is the guy we can expect as the season progresses.

The O'line was horrible and hopefully with another week of practice/coaching they will play better this weekend. Good news is they could not play any worse.

I think this was the type of game you could expect from a juco transfer put into a huge game. He played antsy at times but was also running for his life over half the time. As was stated before, he isn't really in sync with the rest of his receivers yet. This just takes time. You cant expect the guy to come out and throw for 400 yards and 4 touchdowns and play perfectly in his first game as a Cyclone. The main thing I took from this is, he settled down and played extremely well when this team needed him the most. He carried the team on his shoulders and led them to a win. I just wish people would learn to accept the good things instead of always concentrating on the bad things. This was a solid UNI team and they were no push over. A win is a win and thats all that matters at this point.

I love watching these posts. He was an ******* most of the game if you go back over the game threads. Iowa State finally woke up and saw a pansy team beating them. Now Jantz is a keeper. I just love watching the emotions and the ebb and flow of the posts.
I sure hope Iowa State wakes up and starts playing well. They are missing a spark.

I think the future is very bright for Steele. Sure he threw 3 picks but the first one was just as good if not better then a punt since it was on 3rd down and the 2nd one shoulda been a td but instead was dropped. He can run very well and has a cannon for an arm. Can't wait to see his improvement from week one to week two

Within this thread where have the emotions changed? Everyone has shown they like what they saw out of Jantz. This is his first time against different type of competition and in front of one the biggest crowds in ISU history. Once he gets used to the settings he could be very good.

this was not the same UNI team seneca wallace blasted 45-0 back in 2001. UNI was tough last night.

If Tiller had been eligible, I bet he would have been put in the game. Jantz looked terrible in the first 3 quarters, there are no two ways about it. Regardless of whether it was his first game in a Big 12 stadium or not, he was making mistakes that you don't see high schoolers make.

I disagree that Tiller would have put in. Now, on the other hand, Jantz would have been put in if Tiller was the starter and was playing that bad because we've already seen bad from Tiller. CPR told reporters in his interview the night he named the starter that there will not be a desire to pull the starter. Plus, I think if Barnett was put in last night and pulled out the game, there would be a QB controversy this morning. I don't think they want that as a distraction. So, we'll live or die with Jantz. Hopefully, he'll play better going forward.

Jantz threw 4 picks. First was as good as a punt, maybe. Second was on the money and tipped up by defender, I believe, and then picked off. Third was unexplainable, except that the Panther was wide open. 4th was the 2 point attempt thrown up for grabs, with a 30% chance we get it, a 30% chance it is picked off, and a 40% chance of an incomplete pass. He was running for his life on #1, 3, and 4, so that has something to do with it. He will learn when he just has to eat the ball. He did manage to throw away the ball, especially later in the game, so that is a bright spot. He was thinking and learning on the go.

If the first INT hadn't bounced off a stone fingered WR right to a UNI guy it would have been a TD, so I am not counting that against him. One was an overthrow and one I had no idea what he was doing. A little protection would probably help...

I thought Jantz showed more postives than negatives. He's fast enough to play in the Big 12 and is elusive enough to be a problem for most defenses. The two floaters that he threw for int's have to be eliminated if we want to go .500.

Seriously, I love Steele because he had the composure to do what he needed to do in the 4th quarter. Thank god for Josh Lenz and Aaron Horne though. We really need some protection and Darius Darks back. Jantz has the ability to lead us to victory, and that's what I like to see. We need to get the running game going though because Shontrelle was not able to be electric at all. James White looked great though.
