Replace Jantzs' name with Tiller and the same results last night and people would have been calling for Jantz.
Like I said last night, Jantz will have a very looooong leash. As he should. Tiller had one, but screwed it up every time he hit the field.

Tiller has 3 interception game and he's not good. Jantz does and he's called a "gamer".

Jantz came out and won that game for us bud. Jantz is a winner. He IS a gamer.

So what he did early doesn't matter. I like Steele but for crying out loud he was far from adequate last night. I realize it was his first game but he will have to be better than that. My point still stands. He and Tiller have had different rubrics.

Well people who still talk about Tiller are delusional. He can't play this year, and will NEVER play QB at ISU ever again in his life.

Way up there
It's not about defending Tiller, its about people's hard on for Jantz. He already has ready made excuses for his next 3 games. Next week will be his "first Iowa game" the week after, "his first road start", after that "his first big 12 game". I'm not calling for the guy to be yanked by any means, but he's been on campus 9 months, he's a jr, I'm not sure why he gets such a "long leash"? He played great down the stretch, but had he not struggled so badly early on we wouldn't have been in that situation. The good thing is that his mistakes are easily correctable. He was trying to make plays, and I'll take that over a QB playing like he's walking on eggshells (like JT did last year).

Tiller was certainly capable of throwing the 3 INT, although I am still going to hang one of those on Money, but there is no way he would have ran as well as Jantz and he never would have completed that long pass to Lenz. He is not going to be all Big 12 this year, but I liked what I saw at the end of the game. Tiller had several chances to show what he could do and never really did. Yes, he did QB the win at NE, but that game was all about NE dropping the ball than ISU scoring at will on offense.

Still not sure where or what he was doing on the last INT. I was watching on Clonezone, so I couldn't see the whole field. I wonder if the WR cut in when he was suppose to go out, of JS threw out instead of in. There sure wasn't any Cyclone in the area.

I thought jantz looked pretty well last nite. The guy had absolutely no time, our receivers couldn't get open and when they did. Idk how the eff Money drops that ball for the TD.3 touchdowns over 250 yards passing and 80 yards rushing is really good for not having 2 seconds to find a receiver

I don't disagree at all. I like what Jantz brought. I really do and I have a lot of hope for him.

If those were his actual stats, that would be awesome.

If Tiller had turned in Jantz's performance last night, it still would have been his best overall performance.

ISU's offense has never exceeded 13 points under Tiller. Jantz accounted for as more TDs in one game as Tiller did all of last year, which included 2 starts and some solid mop up duty.

You do realize that it was Jantz first night as a starter for ISU right?

Ummmm.....You probably want to retract this statement. Comparing first starts between the two makes you look pretty ******* stupid (I will let you look up Tiller's first start before I believe that it is true though ). And I am no Tiller apologist, but quit grasping at straws here. We won a game, but that is all that can be said.

Jantz looks like he has the athletic ability to play QB in this offense. That is a definite plus, and hopefully something that can be used as the foundation for what he can become.

BUT, the simple fact of the matter is, that as long as we get the line play that we got Saturday night, we won't win another game, even Kansas.

I understand the building process that CPR has to go through. I also understand the absolute ******* mess that mac the mediocre left in his wake. A coaching change two years later made it even worse.

But this HAS to improve. I know injuries and suspensions and all, but this was an inexcusable performance for a BCS team. I can handle getting run over by OU etal, that is going to happen due to talent. But when you add in all of the things that we have not seen from a CPR coached team the last two years, PF's sloppy technique, to's etc, and this staff has a lot of work ahead of them.

Christ, Bruns is the biggest homer out there, and he was disgusted by the way they played. UNI is a good team, and if Farley doesn't continue to do his best mac the mediocre imitation, they could win it all. Problem is that he has continually choked away big games (sounds familiar), and did it the very same way the lost Saturday (sounds REALLY familiar).

The jury is still out on UNI. But I will guarantee you that the Cyclone staff went home Saturday night more than a little concerned. I am guessing that as they look ahead at what is coming, they may even be a little scared.

I think you are taking the fringe element of the hardcore Jantz fans and applying it to anyone excusing his poor early play. I'm personally a fan of Jantz, and I have a feeling he will do much better in future games, but if it's obvious he can't compete in the Iowa game, I'm not going to hesitate to be harsh on him.

There's no denying that even considering the less than stellar O-line play, Jantz was very unsteady early in the game. There were multiple times where you could tell he made one read, and if it wasn't there he tucked and ran or dumped the ball off short. There were also times when he was getting plenty of time from our O-line and he was making good reads, but very inaccurate throws. Lots of his inaccurate throws were catch-able, so you can chalk that up to both QB and WR error(Jantz not leading receivers to give them possible YAC, and the receivers for not making heads up plays and catching slightly off, but still catch-able balls).

Now combine that with the times when our line was getting absolutely manhandled and he had no time to even make reads and had to scramble, and you make Jantz look even worse than he may have actually been playing(Lots of his incomplete passes weren't his fault as he had no other options but to throw them away). Two of his ints were completely his fault, the 2nd should have been a TD, but some stone hands receiver messed it up for him.

All-in-all I would give Steele about 25% credit for our offensive struggles last night, and almost all the credit, along with Lenz and Van Der Kamp on special teams, for eking out the win.

Our receivers need to be spoon fed perfectly thrown balls. I'm really starting to think that a lot of our passing struggles are their fault.

Arnaud, Tiller, and now Jantz have all seen a crap ton of dropped balls. None of these guys are all star QBs, but they have dealt with far too many dropped balls.

Right, but there still would be people calling for him to be pulled. I was sort of surprised that there weren't bench Jantz threads last night during the game. Had that been Tiller, CF would have exploded. That's my only point. I am not saying Tiller is better because he's not, but I am going to be real with Jantz's performance last night. If he does that next week or in any other week save maybe one or two, we are going to get slaughtered. Good performance all things considered, but it's not good enough. I think it is also fair to say that Tiller didn't put himself in a position to have to throw a bunch late in games to rack up any sort of statistical merit.
