No doubt Farley has good coaching genes. But what is surprising in that this is not an 'in the family' hire, certainly emphasized in all of the recent moves. If there was no interest by former Cyclone or Toledo players, then no big deal.

I have no doubt that there was interest from former ISU/Toledo players. But, you don't need to have former players for all of the GA's. You get a smart in-state kid from a coaching family that played at a fairly high level, that's not a bad thing. I would think that with the way Campbell has promoted from within, competition for those GA spots was probably pretty fierce. A good way to grow the "family" is to hire good GA's and let them learn in the system.

Of course it's not a bad thing. But, the last round of promotions where based on a desire to keep things internal with guys that know the system (which is great). Toledo and Iowa State kids fit that bill better over a UNI kid. Just being consistent with the Process.

The longer CMC is at ISU, the fewer old Toledo players there will be who want a GA position. I could see former Toledo, former Pros who may fit the bill in the next few years. Will be plenty of former pros who played for CMC that may want to coach.

GA's are always grad students, right?

Is it possible that the answer is as simple as ISU had a master's program he wanted, and UNI didn't?

Yes and no. I am not saying to discount the grad student part but make no mistake every GA is there to get coaching experience, connections etc. first. Few if any venture too much outside of something school wise that would be applicable to athletics. It isn't like he decided to come to ISU to get a masters in aerospace engineering and just decided to give coaching a shot.

That bald-headed prick is fortunate Campbell doesn't run up the score on him next time.

He is probably going to grad school so he can coach. Being at ISU gets him away from his dad which will look good when looking for other jobs and being a GA at ISU is better than being one at UNI.

I have a radical idea. Our football coach knows exactly what he wants, knows well what he is doing, and determined that Jared Farley fits what he wants and needs at Iowa State. Perhaps it is as simple as Matt Campbell hired Jared Farley because he believes he will help ISU.

I like this move of Farley being added as a GA. His old man may be an azz hat, and hate on him all you want, but the guy does what he needs to do to win......The young Farley is a worker, you can never go wrong adding a worker to your football staff. jmo.

Can't hold it against the kid for his father's sins :D. Jared was a helluva linebacker, as was his dad and older brother. He'll be a good addition to the staff.

Anyone know if Jared is still a Graduate Assistant? Don't see him posted on Cyclones.com under coaches. Thanks
