l. . . I am obviously pulling for whoever wins out, but imo, Tiller takes the reins. But then again, it's all about the work ethic in the offseason and spring camp. Can't wait to see how it all goes.

Work ethic. Interesting point. When asked what JT must do to improve his performance, Austen said something about JT must get stronger, must become a weightroom warrior. Surprising, because by now, finishing his third year at ISU, I would have thought he already had made such a commitment.

Compare Austen's comment to that of (Herm or CPR, I don't recall) at the beginning of last season. James Capello first came to Ames in summer 2009 overweight and out of shape. A year later, he had "transformed" himself in the weightroom, so much so he didn't much look like he did originally, the coach said. You can't get him out of the weightroom, the coach said. JC lives there, the coach said.

Me, I got no idea who ends spring ball with the quarterback job or is considered the No. 1 contender. Primarily, because we have only seen JT in game action and are unable to evaluate SJ, JC or JB at the Big 12 level. Unless one of us here has some enlightening inside info? . . .

Speculation: Makes me wonder if maybe JT thought he would just be handed the job, and was getting a little complacent. Maybe that could be a reason Jantz was brought in.

agree, agree, if he can not start CB may be his spot

I really don't think Jerome has near the quickness or change of direction to be a CB. He is very fast once he gets going forward, kind of like a Bret Meyer except better acceleration. But Jerome doesn't have the same kind of quickness as a Seneca or Phil Bates.

I think people are making him out to be worse than he is. Is he a program-changing QB? No, it does not appear so. Could his throwing motion and accuracy improve to develop the passing game? Absolutely. But I certainly think he is a guy who can manage games for us. As has been discussed, teammates need to help out, notably WR's and OL. TE's and RB has been pretty dependable. Personally, I think Herman's offensive playcalling and formation sets have been the biggest disappointment to me. Where is the pre-snap motion? Misdirection? Shredding the middle of the field and then taking deep shots downfield?

Its January, lets not worry about this today. The coaches will put the best player on the field that gives ISU the best chance to win. If it is JT, so be it.....if it is Jantz, wonderful, maybe ISU will just run the wildcat with Shontrelle and the stable of backs they will have?

If Tiller starts next year, say bye to a bowl game.

I have been at every game JT has started. He has to make major improvements in his offensive reads and his throwing mechanics to lead this team. The Spring competition will show how much he has or hasn't improved. I hope all the QBs are improved and it's a dogfight.

He played well enough to beat Missouri. No one else on the offensive side of the ball did so it looked a lot worse.

For those of us who have watched Steele Jantz's video highlights, he has some mechanical improvements to make, too, doesn't he? Seems like he throws off his front foot alot, his rear foot dangling well off the ground. (Or, maybe I'm focusing on only a play or two. . .). He sure is fun to watch play the game, though.

Because of those highlights, we're more familiar with Steele J's abilities than we are with either those of James Capello or Jared Barnett. Quick, someone post secret video from scrimmages last fall so that we can get a look at Capello and Barnett with the fur flying!

Heck, we know least about Barnett, don't we? He was injured a portion of last fall, his first season on campus. We haven't heard hardly a word about him the coaches, have we? The couple times I heard a question about Barnett posed to CPR, he was brief with a response and gave no details.

We know a bit more about Capello. He's a devoted weightroom warrior (becoming a wornout cliche, but it's short and to the point, I guess), we saw a bit of his running capability against KU last fall, Herman (or was it CPR) labeled him the most accurate passer on the roster.

Agreed, but it's also pretty disappointing to see these lack of improvements in the three years he has been here.

If Diante Garrett doesn't get our loyalty, I don't understand why JT would then. And if JT is our QB next year, that isn't a good thing.

Actuallty, we know a lot about Barnett, and it's all good. He will be a terrific quarterback. Smart athletic QB, good passer and runner. This is a special guy. Since he was hurt early in the season, they choose not to burn his RS. We also know Capello is a very accurate passer, has a lot of savvy and is a winner. He has some mechinics to work on, but who doesn't. And we know that Jantz is a big athletic QB who can pass and run. Has a strong arm, and is an accurate passer. Apparently is picking up the offense on paper already. All have the potential to be a starter for Iowa State, along with Jerome Tiller of course.

All of you JT haters... what is wrong with you... what has JT done that makes you have so little faith in the guy? my guess is while AA was playing you would chat along with all the other students for JT. I'll even bet that you did it to B. Meyer as well. Face it the majority of you are bandwagoners if someone is ranging on one of em you join in.

Could you perform under the condidtions that our QB's were in, No WR behind a decent offensive line no one to throw the football to. JT has shown that he can take care of the football (even AA couldnt do that well) he can create and behind the OL next year he has to create for himself. Jantz from what I have seen of him cannot do that consistantly.

JT has the edge on everyone he has the D1 experience!

Long, longgg way till fall. Lots of time between now and then for someone to step up and take the ball, so to speak. Like I've said before, all I care is that the new QB comes in, gives their all, and hopefully helps us win. If they can't do that consistently, next contestant.
