Nothing looks more ragtag/sandlot football program than not even having matching helmets.

But yes I'm a big advocate for a modern flare of the tornado G/C/G combo.

That particular tornado look was so 1980s. The ISU losing tradition matched it. Criner and Walden. Those helmets and logo should be put into a time capsule, buried and hoping to never be found centuries later.

I respect the opinions of others on this as I know there are several that like it. It's just my 2 cents, nothing more.

It was a terrible idea. Every opponent knew who to focus on by the helmet color. I was a student in that era. Never want to see that again.

I don't want to see it again, just because it is a reminder of the Criner era. But I think the criticism has always been a little overstated. I am sure the other teams knew who our best players were, regardless of helmet color.

Along with the 70s typeface for the "Iowa State". Let it die the death it so richly deserves.

I remember going to see ISU play Colorado in 1998 in Boulder. Troy Davis ran wild that day. Everytime ISU scored, the Buffs stadium scoreboard operator idiots kept showing the old tornado logo. They also had us listed as "Iowa Cyclones." Morons.

The idea that “we’re focusing on this guy because he’s wearing a different color helmet” is dumb because anyone that is diligent in their film study and practice is going to know who to focus on anyway. That being said, multicolor helmets looks dumb and should never be replicated again anyway.

I can't understand the like/love for our yellow helmet of the mid '80s and early '90s. It is one of the reasons Campbell has not opted for a gold set of either yellow helmet or pant. We still have that shade of gold/yellow. There might be an association of past failure also.

What would work well and did was the gold we had from '68-82, before Criner switched us to the brighter colors. Criner's Unis would have been better with the old gold. Waldon's unis (which were good) would have been great with our '70's gold! No brainer really IMO.
