Vaughn is better than Joel Lanning was at the start of the year he got snaps on defense. Joel didn't start figuring things out until honestly about the OU game when he made some big plays. Then it carried over the rest of the season. But even at that, he ended the year as an all american LB. And Mike Rose was a multi year all american and also the defensive POY. You're putting some of these players on pedestals making it easier for your argument if they don't reach that peak. It's not a fair argument lol
Im interested to see what Sadowsky brings. Sounds like he is probably the next impact LB. If Laughlin gives us some good snaps as well we will be in good shape. I trust Heacock to have the defense ready regardless of the players. He has been that good.

Yeah, I'm not worried about the defense in the least.

QB is clearly the biggest worry. We've recruited well at TE. Remsburg had experience, but he was a replacement level guy who has issues staying healthy.

RB is the easiest position to replace. Brock would've given us a high floor, but I think there is some young talent in that room as well. Cumulatively, it sucks to lose 5 starters, obviously. But I don't think anyone should be pouting the season away already.

I agree, I am actually more optimistic about this group of LB'ers than I have been in awhile, probably since we had Rose, Spears, and Hummel out there.

With Dekkers gone if he shows he's ready I wouldn't be shocked to see JJ Kohl out there at some point this season.

We could survive bad OL play when we had talent at the skill positions. Our QB's TE's RB's and WR's are at, or near the bottom, of the big 12 (historical) with regards to "talent".

Last year, X was the only offensive skill guy that another big12 team would swap for.

This year, the only offensive skill guy I could see another big 12 team wanting would be Noel, but even that's a stretch IMO.

That’s probably true, but we do have a plethora of sophomores, RS FR and FR who were recruited by Big 12 and SEC teams.

Here’s the deal IMO…. most years you don’t have to count on guys that have hardly played at all to come through for you to succeed, but often times 2-3 do.

This year…. for us to even have a shot at a bowl game…. a LOT of guys who have hardly ever played, or not played at all, will have to break out and be big contributors IMO…. and that rarely ever happens.

The margins for success are going to be so small…. almost nonexistent. We’ll have to play very clean and mistake free football, which we’ve never been good at before, and we cannot afford to lose games by poor Special Teams this year either, which we’ve also proven in the CMC era that we’re incapable of doing also. And I’m not real confident in any of our kickers or punters either for the most part.

A lot of things will have to go right this year to have any success. It can happen, but the odds are not with us. I’m still very excited to see what’s going to happen though…. and this team will sure be fun to root for!

Could be way off but I got a vibe that perhaps the chemistry or 'all-in'-ness wasn't there the last two years and hopefully there's a change in a better direction this season.

But they were still better than the backups last year so I don't see how it isn't still a drop in talent. So this program just isn't really talented right now? There isn't even close to as much talent as there was in the program 2 years ago. Where are the new Mike Rose's and Brock Purdy's?
they may have been better than the “back ups” last year. Maybe.

Dekkers- sure probably.

The rest? I’m not so sure.

Norton was hurt so we never got to see him.

Orange was going to be gunning for Lee’s spot this year.

Hanika? Yeah we have better players on the roster at his position.

Remsburgh? I mean- he was hurt so much he isn’t even much of a loss. You don’t know what ya got it ya never had it!

Who knows how good Dekkers could have been? He played behind an bad offensive line, had no real running game, no receivers, and a lame duck OC. I'm not real sure anyone would have played well at QB for us last year.

Dekkers was basically the worst possible profile at QB for us last year. Dude was essentially Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite.

I sort of feel bad for Hunter, but not really, from what we have heard about him lately, and for what he did with the gambling. He made his bed... Maybe we will hear 'his' side of the story someday?

I am now looking forward to "next man up QB"! Time to move on.
I feel bad for Jirehl Brock. Always seemed a team-first guy. Made a mistake. I ain't crucifying him. Wish he could've hung around, even if his playing career is over. Does he have a degree?

Higher rated recruits. haha

2018 Ranked 55th
2019 Ranked 51 in recruit rankings
2020 ranked 48th in recruit rankings
2021 61st in recruit rankings
2022 50th ranked in recruit rankings

Yeah we are loaded with backup players who are highly ranked.
Hanika was an 82 on 247. Keller, Burkle, Brahmer, Moore, were all ranked higher and Hanika only played so much last year cuz Dean was playing through an injury.

Isaiah Lee was an 85 on 247. JR singleton was an 89. Dom Orange was an 87.

Dekkers threw the third most INTs in the entire country last year and wasn’t a good leader.

Jirehl Brock barely played during his time at ISU.

So..yes, we are loaded with backup players who were higher ranked recruits.

Jack Sadowsky could be the next Mike Rose. But..,where is the new Brock Purdy? If you expect us to roll out someone who replicates the best QB in ISU history every year, you’re already setting yourself up for disappointment

There's 261 spots in the draft to be a better QB

Of course. That's because we're young and inexperienced at the skill positions.

Question:
How many Big 12 teams would have swapped for Purdy, Butler, Lazard, Kohler, Montgomery, or Hall before they got a chance to show what they could do?

Answer:
Not many.

Sadowsky must really be something. CMC and Heacock have been really high on him, and from what it sounds like, he’s likely to start the UNI game. That is exciting.
