I just saw that the John Mackey Award will be announcing its four finalists at 5:00pm Central today.

Bibbs is on the list of eight semifinalists:

E.J. Bibbs (Iowa State)
Evan Engram (Ole Miss)
Ben Koyack (Notre Dame)
Jimmay Mundine (Kansas)
Nick O’Leary (Florida State)
Jean Sifrin (Massachusetts)
Clive Walford (Miami)
Maxx Williams (Minnesota)

Keep an eye on @JohnMackeyAward on Twitter or johnmackeyaward.com in a few hours to see if Bibbs made the final four. If so, the winner gets announced on December 10.

Does anyone know how many ISU players have been in the running/won these types of "best at your position" awards?

This may be about the only interesting angle to the rest of the season. If Bibbs is at all not healthy I hope we shut him down, he has too much to look forward to be play injured for a 2 win team. If healthy, I hope he can rack up the numbers to win this award.

No Cyclone has ever won position or player of the year award in football, even Troy Davis who was 2nd in Heisman voting lost out to Byron Hanspard for the Doak Walker

Maybe some ambitious person could list their stats for those of us too lazy to look them up...

I was waiting to see if Bibbs made the final four and then would round up those players' stats. Announced in 2 hours or so.

I can see him getting into the four finalists. However, he won't win it. I believe he should, but he won't. All these awards are just a popularity contest. Since most most of the voters probably don't see him play much and will notice he plays for a bad team he won't win.

Bibbs was not chosen as a finalist. Apparently they only pick 3 finalists. They went with the guys from Miami, Florida State, and Minnesota.

Here's to hoping he has about 15 receptions and 5 TD's the rest of the season just to make them look like idiots for not making him a finalist.

Bibbs was disqualified due to his personal foul penalty from Saturday for saluting after a TD reception.

It's unfortunate that he was overlooked for the award. He will probably go before most of the eight Mackey semi-finalists in the draft, and perhaps even all of the finalists, depending on what teams are looking for.

I'm hoping that he's well enough to play the next two games. He seemed pretty banged up after he took that hit to the knee area. On another forum, sounded iffy as to whether he'll play this weekend. Bibbs has been one true bright spot this year. Also agree that it's not worth him risking long term injury for these last two fairly meaningless games. He's got a bright future ahead of him. Will be fun to see him on Sundays. Reminds of Vernon Wells. Think he could have that kind of impact, too, if on the right team.
