I’m old enough to remember when everyone hated him when he replaced Pete Taylor. I’m sure everyone will hate whoever replaces Walters when the time comes.
Yup. It's hard to believe it now, but in the mid 00's there was a lot of handwringing that Walters was no Pete.

At this point he's on that level, IMO. And I'm someone who grew up on Pete and Eric as my main portal into ISU sports (I was a senior in HS when Pete died).

I didn't to listen to many games in Walters' first decade as I was a season ticket holder and road games were starting to be on TV every weekend, but in the last decade I listen to way more games than I actually watch (football anyways) due to my work (farming). Walters is such a gem.

Blum get's my vote/blessing. Would be awesome to have Christopherson back in the mix but he would need to move back closer. Same goes for Bruns.

Agreed. Pete was great. But John is just as good.

And I’ve listened to Heft for my entire life. It’ll be a sad day when he retires.

I am 48 years old and I can say at any point in my life if you asked me how old Heft was I would probably guess 60. (He was a freshman in '71 so I think that makes him 71).

I hope he stays on decades more but when he hangs it up I want Georges for basketball and another former player for football.

I know Georges wants to coach the Cyclones some day but I think TJ has a lock on that job for the next 30 years or so, color would be the next best thing for him.

Blum was great as the color guy last night. Could easily replace Walters or Heft when the time comes. Unfortunately for radio listeners, Blum will be the next GM of cyclone athletics once NIL goes in house
I wonder if there is a path where both occur, I imagine when NIL comes in house it will be more than a staff of 1 so you could split some responsibilities.

Nobody has any shot to be good when they're working with Dolphin.
I get I'm bias so people won't take this seriously but Dolphin is honestly just really really bad. Beyond terrible. I was driving back to Iowa Friday night and listened to part of their game because I was that bored. He makes no effort to paint any kind of a word picture and does not get excited at all. If someone could find his call of the GW FG, it's so bad it's hilarious. Imagine Walters when something like that happens? It's an entertainment business. Would you rather have some one elated like you likely are listening to such a moment or someone damn near acting like he's whispering into a microphone at funeral? He sucks.

I’ve been saying this for years. If you listen to an Iowa game you have no idea if whatever happened is good or bad for Iowa. You don’t know where the ball is at. You don’t know what down it is.

He's somehow worse than Zabel and Zabel didn't even attempt to call a game for the last 20 years he was doing it.
