Can I ask why 8-4 is out of the question? Win the seven home games and the neutral game in Kansas City?

I personally think it is. You can believe it, and so can JM for 12-0 Hawkeyes, but I'm just saying with a prediction like either of those which are off the widely expected finish, you should expect to take some criticism

iowa state fans are being just as ridiculous as iowa fans. Who cares if they predict to win every game? They have 12 winnable games on their schedule. If Iowa State went 11-2 with an orange bowl win, and returned quite a few starters with a top 10 preseason ranking... I'd be talking about our national title hopes too!

Auburn in 2003 started the season ranked like 20th and ended up 2nd. Iowa has had many 10 win seasons in the past 10 years, and some years a 11-1 or even a 11-2 season has won the national title. Iowa could very well go 11-1 and play in the Rose bowl and finish the season #2- with a victory. Thats not unrealistic AT ALL. Therefore, any team that has realistic Rose bowl expectations, their fans are allowed to have natinoal championship pre season expectations.

I agree with brainhos. I don't like the Hawks but try to be an objective sports fan when looking at teams. It wouldn't surpise me if they were undefeated, though, as their schedule would lend itself to that possibility as almost everything goes through Kinnick, and they are tough at home. I hope they don't go undefeated but they are a good football team (as much as I HATE to admit that).

I think I'm being completely objective here when I say it's insane to pick Iowa to go undefeated. Any of you guys talking them up watch them play last year? They squeaked by almost every game. I know good teams tend to get lucky, but Iowa won't get the kind of luck they had last season, simply because these things average out.

My prediction is that teams this year will focus and succeed on getting pressure on Stanzi (which will be easier this year) forcing him into a lot of bad plays, picks, etc. I think they win 8 games best case scenario.

Miller pretends to be a realist, but in truth is as big a joke as most Hock fans are. There is no way in hell Iowa ever sniffs a national title! They are without a doubt the most unrealistic fan base in all of sports. They pretend to be on the same level as Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, Texas, ect. The truth is they never have been and never will be.

You're absolutely right. It is disturbing though to see on this board all these so-called ISU fans who are so optimistic in picking Iowa's record, but at the same time poor mouth ISU picking them to go .500 or worse. I've never understood the Cyclone fans who think this way.

Anyone that has a national championship prediction that doesn't involve a team from the SEC playing in the game is high as a kite. The SEC owns the NC game.

I have a more reasonable prediction... Stanzi throws his first interception in their game against Arizona, and Iowa fans immediately start calling for the backup QB.

Stanzi can't and won't handle the pressure. I predict he loses a couple for them and they start screaming for his head.

Yeah, its tough going to battle with a guy with wins at Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Iowa State. A BCS win under his belt and a career 18-4 record. But yeah, he cant handle the pressure:confused:

I could see them going 12-0, I also can see how they could be 8-4. Lets talk in October and see how things are looking.

his first interception will be in the season opener. And Iowa will still love him forever.:biglaugh:

Jon is entitled to his own opinion, no matter how delusional it is.

And I'm entitled to mine. His preditions are ridiculous, and completely laughable. And I will be laughing my balls off when the hoks squeak their way into an 8 way season, against that schedule.

Stanzi will have many interceptions, just as he always does. And he'll continue to throw them at terrible times, just as he always does. And hok fans will rave about Vanderwhateverhisnameis because he's the backup, just like they always do. And if Ricky-bobby is LUCKY in the least bit, the hok defense or special teams or line play will bail him out yet again.

I've said it before and I will emphatically say it again. Stating that his record as a QB (18-4 or some sh!te?) defines him as a QB is complete bullsh!t. The hoks have won games in spite of their quarterback play, not because of it, and I firmly stand behind that.

These kind of comments just make me laugh. All I can do is assume you really didn't watch any Iowa games last season(or what we looked like with Christensen as our QB). I'm not going to sit here and try to con you into thinking that Stanzi is a tremendous QB or is headed to the NFL after this season. He did have some games where he put us into a bad position with turnovers. But he is absolutely a huge reason why we won last season. We did not win "in spite" of Stanzi. We won because he led us to those victories.

Games are won in the 4th quarter. And Stanzi's 4th quarter stats are amazing.

Completion Percentage: 63.2
TD/Int Ratio: 6-1
QB Rating: 184.3

I will agree that our defense is probably the main reason for our success lately. But not giving Stanzi any credit is ridiculous.

How can they go undefeated with a qb like Stanzi?

How did we go 10-2 last season? How have we gone 18-4 with him as a starter(with him not completing the game in two of those losses). Keep in mind, he only really took hold of the starting job half way through the '08 season. He'll have a year and a half of starting under his belt when he enters his senior campaign. I think he'll be even more improved from last season.

i will say, stanzi does transform into another quarterback in the 4th quarter. but up until that point usually all the iowa fans scream for vandenberg

I find it highly unlikely that Iowa will go undefeated. They could, but it is highly unlikely.

I do know this... I will throw up if they do.

IF, for some reason they do though, I would predict they still won't get into the NC game. I think there might be a couple of undefeated teams that are currently ranked ahead of them at the end of the year.

Iowa was SO close to having 3 or 4 more losses last year it isn't even funny. UNI and Arkansas St had them beat. That Indiana game was a gigantic fluke. Only Indiana could lose that game. Barely beating UNI, Arkansas St, and Indiana is not the sign of a national championship caliber team... sorry.
