i will say, stanzi does transform into another quarterback in the 4th quarter. but up until that point usually all the iowa fans scream for vandenberg

I don't recall that either. Not even against Indiana, when he had like five turnovers, were there wasn't a bunch of people calling for Vandy. Despite what's posted on this site, Iowa fans don't always call for the back up QB(at least not the ones with football knowledge). We do it when we're not winning or performing like we think we should('01 and '08 are examples of that). No argument there. But c'mon...no one was calling for our backup QB while we were on our way to a 9-0 record last year. That's nuts to even suggest it.

with out a strong defense that scores points stanzi loses all of those close games. He just dose not have the arm strength or the accuracy to play at a high level.

No way in heck they go 12-0. They were only 11-2 last year because of the most lucky season in the world.

The odds of them having a better team......but worse record are as good or better than them running the table playing for the NC. Too many good things must fall in place for the NC year, while only one or two bad things(injury to key player for example) need to happen for a 2 or 3 loss season.....if not more. Possible...yes, probable...no. I would say their chances of playing in the NC are about the same as the odds of Nebraska having 8 turnovers against us again.

There are a LOT of hawk fans going 12-0. Some are even boasting a multi TD win in the national championship. I can't wait to see them react to a loss.

Iowa was SO close to having 3 or 4 more losses last year it isn't even funny. UNI and Arkansas St had them beat. That Indiana game was a gigantic fluke. Only Indiana could lose that game. Barely beating UNI, Arkansas St, and Indiana is not the sign of a national championship caliber team... sorry.
Dude, you are reaching so hard. Arkansas St had Iowa beat? I recall them never having the lead and only making it close with a late TD, right? Indiana was a fluke, I grant. Indiana just couldn't make the plays to stop Iowa in the 4th.. Reverse that pinball interception and Iowa still wins by 4. Don't even start with UNI, they couldn't make the plays to win the game. ISU fans should know that you have to execute in clutch kicking situations or you don't win. I saw no Iowa fan feeling good about the game, but they still won.

Is Ohio State a NC caliber team? Because they lost to Purdue last year. 1-5 Purdue. They also beat Navy at home by 2 points. Don't forget getting taken to overtime in their house by an Iowa team without their top QB and RBs. Everyone has them at #2 this year, I guess the nation does not care about close games from last year as much as you. Winners know that winning close games are the difference between good and great teams.

On the subject, John can think whatever he wants. I believe Iowa will be at least 10-2 this year, with a realistic shot at 11-1. 12-0 is not likely, but this team has a better shot than any Iowa team has had in a long time.

Maybe they should staart by getting to the Rose Bowl. 8 other Big Ten schools have been there since Iowa was there 20 years ago. And Nebraska once

Uhhhh no. It doesn't work that way. Indiana was on Iowa's 2 yd line, up 21-7 in the 3rd quarter. They run the ball in for the TD there, they are up 28-7 mid 3rd quarter. But for some reason they decide to throw the ball, after having run it down Iowa's throat on that drive to get to the 2 yd line, and the ball pinballs around off 3-4 guys and into the hands of Sash who returns it all the way for a TD.

Indiana scores there and it is game over. That fluke play turned all the momentum around and the crowd that was sitting on their hands and ready to leave the stadium. It was a whole new ball game after that. Down by 7 versus down by 21... are you kidding me? Your team has a whole different mindset being down 7 versus 21.

actually most hawk fans that i know cry every time stanzi throws a pick and then in the northwestern game when he went down, they realized they were screwed without
him and were hoping for him to go back in

If you thought that was too much, then you should actually watch me talk about it

ISU mentions early on. Thanks for the love ISU...looking forward to another fun football season!

The absolute best way to deal with this is simply to agree and recognize the sheer brilliance Jon is landing upon. In fact, anything less than 12-0 and a National Championship is an total failure. If Iowa does not face Saban in the National Championship then this season is a total waste. Waste!

Setting up these expectations for the fan base is the best thing you can do as the CCIC(chief cheerleader in charge)-your fan base could be in trouble of not having enough confidence.

Great job Jon-National Championship or fail!!!!

This. For a team that has not played in a Rose Bowl since the 80's maybe fans should start there.

Uhhhh no. It doesn't work that way. Regardless of where Indiana had the ball, you can't assume they would've scored at all, much less "run the ball in for the TD there." Your speculation about what would have happened had X not happened is just as silly and presumptuous as Stonesthatroll's or whoever it was. All that matters is what did happen.

Iowa played in and won a lot of close games last year. Gone is their best cornerback, gone are 4 offensive lineman (3 starters) gone is Wegher. Now i'm not putting down Iowa, their coaches always have them ready to play and this will be no different.

To me, Iowas season will come down to these few parameters.
1. Can their corners cover, because we know the safeties are quality players and dont make a lot of mistakes.
2. Can the essentially replace the entire right side of the line? Can Reiff handle the speed side of the rush and stanzis blindside?
3. Can this offense withstand the mistakes made by Stanzi? Last year they overcame his stupid mistakes and had an awesome season....can they repeat?

I think Brianhos has it pegged pretty good. I think the hawks go 10-2 and tie for 2nd in the big ten with Wisconsin. To me, its clear that Ohio State is the best team in the big ten. Wisconsin, Penn State and Iowa are a close 2nd.

Iowa will lose to:
Ohio State and
Either: Iowa State, Penn State, @ Michigan, @ Northwestern
