All i heard from Marty and Miller on the way to the presser is there is a good chance he might consider the school again. His coach is really impressed with the hire and couldnt stop talking good things about it. Right now it is still up in the air.

What has Bernstine been saying? Is he thinking Iowa State again?

Ken Miller said he talked to Mihalavich, his coach, and paraphrasing the quote, he "would be really surprised if Bernstine didn't at least give ISU another look after the Chizik hire"

I think any defensive minded player would be ill advised not to at least look at us with this move. How could one of the best defensive players in the state not look at a home-state program? He could start early and be great at ISU or just another player at Nebraska. I know it's a tough call and he needs to do what's best for him but I would be surprised if he didn't at least meet with Chizik.

First time post here...do you think Gene will try to change the minds of the two nationally ranked recruits from Humboldt (I believe they are both defensive players)? I know they have verbally committed to Iowa but I've seen recruits change their minds. Anybody have any connections to those kids?

No connections, but I think they are pretty solid in the Iowa camp. The two kids (Nielsen & Hundermark) are the real deal. I just think it would be hard to sway them over this late in the game.

Any buzzards from Hawkville denouncing the hire? Our guy worked with Vince Young. Their guy worked with Tator.

Hopefully Chizik is already aware of Bernstine and will try and pursue him. It'd be foolish to ignore the hiring of one of the best defensive minds in the country. Bernstine ought to talk to Michael Huff!

I agree.

GC made a comment of trying to focus on Iowa first and then looking at the outer states. In time this would be great, but as for now, I cant see that being possible. Not this year anyway. Most of the players are a lock for the Iowa program who have already committed. And there isnt a lot out there this year.

But I would love for onces to start taking a lot of these Iowa boys away from Iowa. I know a few years back we got the majority, but how good of a class was that? I would like to see a good class like this years, mostly committ to ISU and leave Iowa in dust for in state talent.

Would Chizik have been at UCF when Daunte Culpepper was? Didn't Culpepper graduate in 2000?

A friend of mine for Hawkville said an admin from HR talked to Bernstein today and he said he has not changed his mind on his top schools and still does not consider ISU in the running.

I agree......this late in the game, there is no time to waste, and something like that would take some serious time, may not pay off, and certainly wouldn't engender any good will in-state. I don't really care what the Iowa staff would think, but some high school head coaches may not like it.

Maybe they are just pulling a JP and are saying they are going with Iowa but their first choice really IS Iowa State!

I have Humboldt connections, and I don't think either Hundertmark or Nielsen would re-consider Iowa State as an option. Both of them are big Hawkeye fans, however, there's another RB/LB at Humboldt named Jordan Smith (6'1 210 lbs) who showcased his talents on his way to MVP of the State Playoffs. I think he would be a good fit and a great steal this late in the recruiting process with some real potential. Chizik did say he wanted to recruit in state maybe he'd be an option? Just throwing that out there.

I don't think you'll see decisions changed this late in the game but you never know.

I agree with ISUFan22, Iowa fans are extremely nervous with this.

Finally ISU has an AD that realizes Iowa has nothing that we don't or can't have. There is no reason they should be more successful than we are year after year. ISU needs to get past just wanting to win the Iowa game and not caring as much about the others. It's time we realize the conference games are where the money is. Beating Iowa is great but it's not a championship of any sort.

i think bernstine will atleast consider us again. Learning from Monte in tampa bay will help things as well. If he is as good of a recruiter as alot of us hope he will i think there is a chance that he would come here. At this point it is still a toss up but i think he will look at us more closely now. Landing bernstine would definetely have an impact.
