Not a big deal. We won 3 games last year. He's not worth even a half of a point. If this were a game week and we were a 7 point underdog we would still be a 7 point dog once he was ruled out.

How do people like you actually post crap like this? Lanning will go out next and you will post about how Noland had passed him and its ok.

The standard line of "he wasn't going to play anyway" has maybe never been more inappropriately (stupidly) used on this board. The guy started every game last year, had 70 tackles and 5 for loss. He was the national defensive player of the week after the Texas game last year. Plays a position which is one of the two thinnest position groups on the team.

Statements like that show the dumb *****. It's OK for guys to transfer once in a while. It's not wholesale defection. Guy graduated and looked at other options available to him. Wants to play in front of family.

He was a solid starter at linebacker last year, so I would have thought he would have been the leader of the group this year.

But that isn't what the coaches seemed to say during interviews. They always seemed to talk about other guys more than Harris. He may have been having some issues changing to a new defense or maybe his style of play just didn't fit. Fact is I doubt he would be leaving if he thought he was going to have a big role this fall.

He also had some posts on Twitter earlier this spring that made me think he might be gone.

It's unfortunate to see him go but if you're gonna start or play significant minutes you wouldn't transfer imo

Makes me wonder if it has more to do with the types of emphasis these coaches are making. For instance, they expect guys to be in school and summer conditioning. They don't seem to be cutting much slack to guys who don't want to work hard. I have no idea if this applies to Harris. He was doing something right in the classroom in order to graduate. Don't know how seriously he took conditioning, but he always looked good.

Grad transfers are free to go wherever they want. Only graduate transfers.

Didn't Ferentz have to give permission for Rudock to transfer to Michigan and play? May have been just a Big 10 rule.

This is definitely not a positive, but it's also safe to say he wasn't as good as advertised. He never "flashed" last season like Harvey did on occasion. Harris would have played a lot, and we have nothing at LB, but to act like he was good is overstating things

It hurts our depth, but I don't blame him for transferring if his role was not going to be what he expected. He only has one year of FB left.

Harris seemed like a guy who got along well with other players. Perhaps he was just a Rhoads/Burnham guy who didn't click with the new coaches. Maybe Rhoads promised him playing time and Campbell didn't. At any rate, his comments in departure are classy. Seems really grateful for his opportunities here.

Don't know why people are freaking out..he was a below avg big 12 Lb IMO..Harvey much better upside..we've got other Lbs to fill the other spot..not worried. Wish him the best and he seemed like a good kid but we will be fine.

Not following how losing arguably the centerpiece of a defense that finished 107 out of 127 FBS teams last year and came into camp out of shape is a "big blow".

Generally, I prefer not to lose our best players. Does anybody know for a fact that he came to camp out of shape?

He def would have played but I can assure you he wasn't starting..it does affect depth but guys like Harvey, Seeley, Mills, McMillin, prob fill void just as well...Harvey was for sure starting. If we were still in a 3-4 is be with u...but we moved to a 4-2-5 and now need half the Lbs so we will be fine.

Which came first? The decision to use a 4-2-5? Or evaluation of our LB capacity?

Ha..good ? Maybe same time..Harris was a go get ball type Lb who didn't have to think in the 3-4...it moved him away from having to read the QB..Go back and look at what coaches said after spring..just sounds like he got passed over. I think when all is said and done we aren't even going to remember not having him this year..just IMO. Seemed like a really good guy though and wish him well.

Only reason this is a loss is because of depth. He wasn't that good of a player. There is a reason he was a Juco All American and only had 1 offer. With that said, I wish him the best of luck at his new school and congratulate him on his graduation.

Seeley is about the worst LB option I have seen suit up and take the field. Saying he is an adequate replacement for Harris is just ludicrous. Maybe the scheme didn't fit him, but there will be some guaranteed running downs in red zone D where there will be no better LB on ISUs team to hold the line. When ISU is giving up RZ TDs 80% of the time next year this will be one of the primary reasons.
