I wish they would've freed this ~$20M up before like 75% of the impactful free agents had signed.

Waiting on extending Hill burned us twice. Should've signed him before the Davante Adams deal. And now trading him this late doesn't leave much for veteran free agent help.

Going to need a A+ draft from Veach...
There can always be trades later especially with draft capital to land guys. If it was possible to sign him prior to this they would have but obviously they couldn't.

There is no way I would pay over what Chiefs offered for Hill. He is a very specific player that relies on his ridiculous speed. He is 28. At what point is he not the fastest receiver in the league anymore? Maybe in 2-3 years and then you are way overpaying him.

Miami and New York as potential destinations says a lot. My guess is he doesn’t want to be in KC and KC knew it was time to get something out of him because he was walking away either way.

My wife told me he wants 30 million. He's given me some outstanding memories as a Chief but IMO no receiver is worth that, especially if you can get two first rounders in exchange.

I've had a love/hate relationship for Hill for awhile now. Love the electric plays he has on the field but hate the horrible person he is off the field. He's always had questions about his character with the multiple abuse accusations over his career. If they can land a good haul for him I'm probably OK with it at this point as the Chiefs don't need a locker room diva if he's unhappy. The last time they thought they had an off-field issue with Hill that might have resulted in a lengthy suspension or having to cut him like they did with Hunt they drafted Hardman who is kind of a poor man's version of Hill with his size and speed but has issues catching the ball sometime.

If you can load up on picks and maybe bring in a guy or 2 to fill another need in a trade I'm OK with it if he doesn't want to be in KC anymore. Can use a pick to draft a WR or flip it in a trade for a veteran WR. The Chiefs will have to stay creative with their payroll as long as Mahomes and Jones big contracts are there so signing Hill to a huge deal probably was not going to happen without moving other pieces and going cheap to fill other needs.

I think it might slow them down but hard to pay him 30 million and draft a WR early and things will be ok in Kansas City.
I tend to agree. Losing a guy who can take the top off of the defense like he can, is very hard to replace, and will have a downstream effect, for sure. That doesn't necessarily mean that KC will be worse, only that they'll have to evolve.

I don't get too caught up in salary numbers, though. The market is the market, and a player is worth what a team is willing to pay them. Players demand big numbers because they can, and they know teams will pay it. And while one team might not be able to justify a $30 million receiver now, another team might. And the net effect is that all receiver salaries continue to march upward.

Would have liked 2 1st round picks, but paying him that kind of money was off the table.
Yep, still got a pretty good haul. One thing I don't like about it is this years 1st is #29 so basically a 2nd round pick.

I think the Chiefs own #30 too so there is a possibility of packaging one of both of them to move up to get someone earlier in the 1st now too.
