I see the Kansas upheaval on phog.net is in full swing -

Biggest blow to our program's national rep ever...Yesterday at 10:34 PM
(35 votes)

was today. this will probably hurt recruiting, should hurt recruiting. we were disrespected in the media, by the odds makers, and laid an egg. we've had 4 eventual lottery picks the past 2 seasons and zero sweet 16 appearances. we played crap basketball much of the year. we have zero chemistry and didn't play the one player in the program that would help in that regard, at all, in favor of 2 guys that put up a big fat zero in any and all respects, when it counted, the past 2 seasons. this to me is the worst NCAA loss we've ever suffered.
name a worse one? This was a shellacking of a 2 seed in the first weekend. a complete dismemberment.

I hope Self takes it as a wake up call and tweaks his approach to the game. We had the worst chemistry in the tournament. It was hard to watch. Even my wife, who knows little about it, recognized it. And the majority of you don't see it? Unbelievable.

Not there, obviously. Good effort for deflection. However, it's interesting to note that of the teams that have held that spot 10 or more times, KU has done the least with it...despite all the talent they have (squander). The ONLY person wearing KU blue that I feel sorry for this weekend is Perry Ellis...he seems to be a good guy stuck with a bunch of fatheads.
Bump it out to Top 4 seeds that didn't make the Sweet Sixteen (but "should" have per their seed) and actually include every one that has been a Top 4 seed since they started seeding in '85 and the numbers are obviously different. Of the teams that have been a Top 4 seed as many times as Iowa State (4) that failed to reach the Sweet Sixteen at a worse rate than Kansas' 9 of 26 (34.6%): New Mexico failed 4 of 4 (100%), Nova failed 6 of 8 (75%), Cincinnati failed 6 of 9 (66.7%) Stanford failed 5 of 8 (62.5%), Purdue failed 5 of 9 (55.6%), Illinois failed 6 of 11 (54.6%, Georgetown failed 6 of 12 (50%), Maryland failed 5 of 10 (50%), Pitt failed 5 of 10 (50%), Mizzou failed 3 of 6 (50%), Florida State. Iowa State, Tennessee and Virginia failed 2 of 4 (50%), Michigan failed 5 of 11 (45.5%), Arkansas and Wake Forest failed 3 of 7 (42.9%), St John's and UMass failed 2 of 5 (40%), Ohio State failed 5 of 13 times (35.7%) and Syracuse failed 6 of 17 (35.3%). The best of them is UConn at just 1 failure in 13 seasons as a Top 4 seed. Impressive.

who the hell cares? Bottom line is kansas once again underperformed in the tournament and embarrassed the conference.

Iowa state did too this year but hasn't done it under fred prior to this year.

Kansas seems to have trouble with mid majors.

You know, I was just saying to somebody that "at least KU fans know when to tuck their tail between their legs and just let stuff go, unlike those Hawkeye fans...they don't know when to shut their fat mouths".

I guess I was wrong. Kansas Jayhawks fans = Iowa Hawkeyes fans

Lots of words to explain away Kansas going home two years in a row, as a 2 seed, on the first weekend.

2 seed would play, at best, a 7 seed on the first weekend. 7 seeds are the "Also Receiving Votes" teams in the AP Poll - they would be unranked.

And Kansas got to play in St. Louis and in Omaha.

Yet somehow Kansas ended up playing a 7 seed that finished the season ranked #12 in the nation, just three spots below them instead of a 7 seed in the "also receiving votes" category. The committee obviously gave the Big 12 too much credit for being good and Wichita State too much of a penalty for being in a bad conference. Find me one other team that entered the tourney ranked #12 or better than got less than even a 5 seed.

I was just about to say that at least ISU fans fresh off a first round exit as a #3 seed wouldn't be inclined to dump on teams that didn't lose in the first round but I guess I was wrong as well. It's just a conversation, I'm not bad mouthing anyone or defending Kansas. Just thought I'd do some research into it myself, include not just a selected few schools and see how the Top 4 seeds stacked up.

The only excuse for Kansas losing is that they didn't play very well at all. The fact that it was to a very underseeded #7 really makes no difference.

tuco being here is cathartic. As bad as UAB was to Iowa State, Kansas has it worse over the last couple of years.

You mean getting spanked by little brother (that they refuse to play) on national TV is bad? Losing to WSU and KSU in the same year. I wouldn't say they are the worst team in the state, only because Emporia State hasn't had a shot at them.

dont forget losing to Iowa state twice. They may pretend like they don't care but the fans and coach do care.

Kansas' goalposts are in the Lake after we actually won a game...

True.

Here's the thing, tuco. I actually like KU FOOTBALL fans. I've been to a couple of games there, even watched the pregame band show by the big screen just before watching my team get shellacked. The fans were fun, friendly, and not the slightest bit stuck-up.

It's the basketball fans (like you and a few others in this thread) that I find obnoxious.

How on earth is losing to that Wichita State team worse than losing to UAB? UAB finished fifth in Conference USA and only made the field by pulling a huge upset in their conference tourney. The possibility of them making field without that was 0%. Wichita State was ranked four spots behind KU at the end of the year. That's not a bad loss. If it is then ISU should consider losses to Baylor or Oklahoma a bad loss. It's a bummer that KU pulled them as their #7 seed and had to play a team that good this early in the tourney but sometimes luck doesn't go your way.
