Not exactly sure.
To steer from the loads of gifs this thread has become I'll share my very unpopular opinion.

If Kempt were to play for a conference opponent and receive his 6th year waiver, this fan base (including myself) would be up in arms over the decision.

As much as I want Kyle back, I don't see how there is any real justification for Kempt getting a 6th year. If the NCAA starts granting these types of waivers, where does it stop?

Now, bring on the negative reactions.

If he was the first in this situation, then yes probably agree with you. Others have gotten this, so why shouldn't he?

You are missing the point. The NCAA has granted 6th year waivers like this for players who have been run off (See Nebraska's Tanner Lee) so whether Cyclone fans have been pissed off or not in the past it has happened. Why shouldn't ISU get one of them for a change?

Its called the "run-off" rule. There is some justification for it. Research Tanner Lee, Nebraska QB.

You need to drink more of the Campbell & Co. Kool-aid. ;)

I'm aware of the Tanner Lee case. I guess I should have phrased my comment better to read that I don't feel the run off cases are enough justification for a 6th year and not just Kempt specifically.

I don't think defensive players who make helmet to helmet contact on an offensive player who lowers his head should be subject to targeting ejection, but it happens. Just because we don't like a rule and disagree with it doesn't mean we all don't have to live by it and shouldn't accept it when it can work in our favor.

Kempt’s Instagram post is interesting. Caption says “18 X 17”. Sixth year confirmed?

Edit: I am an idiot

I can't quite figure out what "18 X 17" means. I must be missing something! How about 2018 for #17 Kyle Kempt?

I'd be really curious to know how in the hell they can decipher between a kid transferring for one reason while another kid is "run off"

I can't think of a better to extend a 6th year than on a kid who dominated @#2 the first time he was ever allowed on the field. Clearly some people missed in evaluating his value. He had the #17 QBR in all of college football and only played one bad team.

How often does a player rank #17 in the nation at QB and never gets a snap until he has a half season of eligibility left? And he's a great person and great student.

If Mayfield was given another year, I might question the logic., but Kempt is pretty far from a all conference QB. I think most opposing fans would be pretty fine with it.
