Kolar and Rose both accept Senior Bowl invites.

Senior bowl should be fun to watch this year. Also, this pretty much confirms both players likely intentions after this season.

I know we figured both already as gone, but I think they may have been able to both still use an extra covid eligible year if they really wanted it.

I’m assuming this is it for ISU invites? Assuming no invite for Purdy/Enyi/Hutchinson? Obviously Breece and McDonald are underclassmen.

Unfortunately there is going to be disappointment again at the number of Cyclones drafted in 2022.
I get why there’s a conditioning to feel this way, but I think you’re underestimating this class. Not every guy will get drafted, but I really do there will be several. More than we’ve had in quite a while.

Jeezuz I would hope so. We’ve had 3 guys drafted in 7 years.

Can’t see how Breece and Kolar aren’t drafted. Will, Enyi and Rose seem very likely too. Players like Hutch and Allen among others have chances at the late round frame. Hard to not see at least 4-5 drafted. Which for us is really good.

I think basing it off “we never have had guys get drafted historically” is a lazy take. These players have legit talent compared to past players.

Stop putting the ***** on a pedestal. I don't think # of draft pics will ever define Iowa State's success as a program.
I’ve posted several times how impressive the record is since 2017 relative to number of guys drafted. Amazing coaching and development by our staff. It just hasn’t translated to putting guys in the league.

You realize most of the best players from the era you’re mentioning are still on the team right?

I’m not sure who would’ve been guys we thought should’ve been drafted but weren’t the last few years besides Lazard? Guys who have moved on like Jaquan Bailey, Spears, Peavy, Deshaunte Jones… Lanning.. these were all nice players, but I don’t think anyone saw serious NFL potential with those guys.

I thought Bailey, Lanning and Lima had serious potential, but I was wrong. Lanning was an All American and Bailey was All Conference. There will be guys drafted this year, but not “several”. Again, guys over achieve here and coaches do a great job making players the best version of themselves. I hope I’m wrong and there’s more than three of these guys drafted, but I just don’t see it.

I really thought Lima would catch on with an NFL team. Did he get any training camp tryouts?

Yeah, All American nods aren’t a great indicator for the next level. For who you mentioned, I love Lanning, but he was a QB for 3 years here. I guess I just never saw an NFL future with him. Didn’t really fit at any position at the next level, kinda like Collin Klein.

Bailey was a guy who was very productive, but I always could tell he didn’t have enough speed and variety of pass rushing moves to make it at the next level. You definitely see those things more in McDonald.

I did forget about Lima. Thought he maybe had more potential at the next level. Think he hung around Miami’s training camp for an offseason. But ultimately he was a pure run stuffing specialist, and those guys don’t get valued like they used to.

You’re right that we make the most out of players here. But I think this year just happens to be a year where there genuinely is more talent coming out.

Agreed. I'm just saying that's not our measure of success. Nobody is going to lose sleep over draft picks compared to how these players impacted the team and program.

See Lazard. He's doing fine for himself, and came here for the program and culture (when it was in the dumps). He helped to build this program to where it is today and maybe sacrificed draft stock for it. Good for the program, good for him too as he kept pounding and found a spot in the league.

Also most players will end up being great college players, maybe not suited for the pro game. We can thrive on those types and build them up for their future doing other things outside the NFL.

A little surprised if Rose plays if he's been dinged up.

Soehner is another one that I thought would be a sure thing to get drafted. He's on IR with the Saints. Hope he gets a shot some day.
