Not as frequently as the Garzas but the Kinnick doc has been talked about a lot as well here lately. More coming it appears:

So I guess I will just say it here and if I am wrong come Monday so be it. I received a text last night from someone that had been chatting last night with a couple guys that have ties to KXNO. Travis and Ross will be the morning show and Sean and Heather in the afternoon. Travis essentially said it today without really saying it too IMO.

Travis and Ross will be OK as they have done the morning show together before and while it may be a little Hawk heavy with the talk they work well together IMO. Not excited about Sean and Heather pairing. I've been a staunch defender of Heather on the morning show as I think that is where she shines is being a morning radio host because she doesn't have to lean too heavy on being focused just on sports. I'll give them a chance but based off what we already know about both the bar is set pretty low at this point on my expectations of how that show goes.

Here is something I wish both the morning and especially the late afternoon show would do more of: FIND QUALITY GUESTS TO INTERVIEW ON A REGULAR SCHEDULE! As much as I could not stand some of the previous afternoon hosts like Marty, Matt, and Jim at least those shows got some good regular guests on to talk about things to fill the time slot and not just a bunch of fluff of random stuff. It's one thing Miller actually does well on his show too which is why they don't take many calls because they usually have someone on for a good chunk of the show. Cotlar used to have regular guests on the morning show too. Give us something other than Randy, Tommy, and any other DMR hack you are buddies with and give the listeners some fresh perspectives. Heck with all the connections Chris has with CF and their staff and former ISU players you'd think even he could throw them a bone and have some regular sponsored segments with some guys to get us some Cyclone coverage. Just something other than random bumbling about what Heather and 5-0 have been up to or Sean and his girlfriend and "seantourage" or whatever they call it. The Morning Rush especially has felt like just another outlet for the 3 of them to self-promote their non-radio ventures at times lately. I don't expect 100% of the topics to be all sports especially with a morning show but for a sports talk show station Miller and Condon is about the only show right now that is heavy on the sports and light on the fluff.

I think the struggle for guests on the Morning Rush and Fanatics is the timeslot. Getting people from the ISU athletic department on air between 3 and 6 pm is nearly impossible. And few people want to go on air between 6 and 8 am as well. That's just my guess, but I agree to a degree. As much as I really don't like Trent Condon's voice, their show always has a great lineup of guests.

They were doing it when I moved to Des Moines. Expect more of Travis' "shock jock" attempts, extended moments of silence because Ross is laughing uncontrollably, directionless banter about the Hawks and Huskers.

I'll hold off on judgements until I actually hear the new lineup, but this doesn't exactly perk up my interest.

I've criticized Des Moines and Cedar Rapids media personalities before, but there are some criticisms here where I'm just not sure what people are expecting. Des Moines has FAR better local programming and talent compared to my local market of Cedar Rapids, and as Chris said, we are pretty lucky to have as much local programming as we do. As I get older I guess I feel less and less of a need to crap all over things that I have little direct knowledge of.

It seems kind of odd that they are keeping it such a secret. I don't know if it is trying to build anticipation or what, but it would be nice to know a bit ahead of time what the lineup will be.

My thoughts exactly. At least 5 different people (whether on KXNO or in the know) have implied they know exactly what changes are coming, why keep it a secret..?

I know some don't like Murph and Andy, but you have to say they do radio right. Just listen. They rarely talk over each other, Andrew Downs isn't always trying to be a part of the show, and it never devolves to white noise. Ditto Miller and Condon. I just hope the new hosts and new shows can do the same. Sometimes less [talking] is more.

Murph and Andy are leaps and bounds ahead of anyone in the DSM market when it comes to entertainment and a sense of humor. The rest are embarrassingly bad.

Probably a good thing Emery and Sean aren't the future. Listened to a segment today where Emery, Sean and Caleb were all talking over each other. Awful on the ears.

Not thrilled with Heather if its her with Sean. I would rather have Emory even if he comes off as a ****.
So will be getting 50 in the afternoon to waste a half hr?

Really afternoons don't matter to me much. Even when it was Ross and CW I rarely listened after Murph and Andy ended unless there was a major sports story going.

You missed out then, it was generally pretty darn good radio. The DSM market was blessed for years to have an absolutely solid block of local radio from Murph and Andy through the Sports Fanatics. We all seem to ***** and moan about KXNO but they had the afternoon to drive time spots nailed.

I think we all need to give this new pairing in the afternoons a chance before dumping on it, everyone starts somewhere. If you go back and listen to some of CW's first shows with Ross I'm sure they aren't the best. Fast forward a few weeks and they were vastly improved. A few months later they were damn good. Sean deserves that runway too, the kid has put his time in and I think has the ability to make it.

Ross and Cw where a perfect combo. Andy and Murph are great as well. I don't hate Miller and Condcup on but the betting talk is not my cup of tea.

I haven't really kept up with this thread but thought I would offer up a few thoughts.

1) The mean-spirited feelings towards talk radio hosts always surprises and disappoints me, although I kind of understand it. We give opinions constantly and you are bound to rub people the wrong way. It makes sense but I hate it as the KXnO folks are all really good people.
It's not so much the opinions given but it's the content being chosen to discuss. It has become so Hawkeye-centric this summer that it has become difficult to listen to when the same things over and over are being discussed.

The Garzas were on multiple shows multiple times to discuss their camp being held. Georges Niang, Ashley Joens, and Tucker DeVries all held camps in the area this summer. The morning rush had one phone conversation with Georges, the other athletes and their camps weren't even mentioned by anyone.

I used to love kxno to the point where I would turn it on at 6am every morning and just let it run, and I try to watch what I say having worked in journalism myself, but it's difficult to not notice things like that and be turned off by it.

Agreed on finding a variety of guests. I ASSUME some of the stuff like 5-0 and Bruno are sponsored guests....but gets kind of old......I get they have to pay the bills, but between that and the constant sports betting guests, repetitive

I also imagine finding content for several hours is tough, so I want to be fair to the hosts.

I'd also be ok if they blocked the number of "Derek from New Sharron" lol
