Two questions....how can a college kid who has signed a 4.5 million dollar professional contract (no matter the sport) be allowed to participate as an amateur? And for the Oakland Athletics to be willing to sign Murray to a contract like that, wouldn't you have to figure that they either have a substantial insurance policy on him and/or the A's and the Univ. of Oklahoma worked out something behind the scenes?

Any number 9 MLB pick is far from a sure thing to begin , so I don’t think the football injury risk moves the needle that much. The risk of him getting a career ending injury playing football isn’t that significant compared to the risk of him never figuring out how to hit.

Said it multiple times--that's guaranteed money. A career ending injury may happen but he could work part time for the rest of his life and be fine.

There's been examples of players playing in the minors then coming back to college at ages 25, 26 and playing college ball, so this is not as bad as that.

Guy is the real deal. Pretty rare to see a guy that is that fast and elusive be that deadly at passing. Stresses the **** out of the defense and ensures that even good play calls and good play can’t always stop him.

I could be wrong on this, but I think that even though he has signed his contract he can't collect his signing bonus until he is done playing at OU. There are banks that would be willing to loan him money based on the contract he signed though.

Just what I was thinking. Watching the game, you could tell Kyler doesn't like contact. Any contact. Reminded me of Brandon Weeden from OSU. If and when a team figures out a way to get hits on Kyler, it will be interesting to see how he responds.

I think he would especially hate playing Clemson and Alabama. I expect TCU to be able to get hits on him.

2. I don't care how much money he has earned in baseball. More power to him.

3. As businessperson, it seems to me that the A's have an asset to which they've guaranteed north of $4M and he's playing the most violent mainstream sport there is. Pro teams have clauses about waterskiing, snow skiing, riding motorcycles etc. so it surprises me that they'd be Ok with the violent collisions found in football. It just strikes me as shaky risk management.

That's what I thought about his situation. I have no problem with him playing but I'm surprised the A's are ok with it. Big risk with little to no gain. Not just talking injuries either, if he plays like that all season he'll have some attractive football options.

I guess his talent level gave him leverage. I'd be wary if I were the A's. But if I owned a MLB club, I'd be a billionaire ...

He got hit twice I believe he got up talking to the refs both times. You could tell he was unhappy with them. He is fun to watch. Just the kind of guy I would love to see have a very bad game. I would like to see if he could handle some failure.
