A Tuesday on Veishea for Iowa State students is no different than a Saturday for Veishea. Only thing that makes Friday/Saturday crazier is there are more non-students.
this. I was a freshman for the last year of Veishea and one thing I heard a lot of kids blame was the cops. In previous years the cops rarely bust house parties and they have a rule called the flamingo rule. Cops will put a flamingo outside your house party if they deem it's under control. You can't have a house party go outside on Veishea or they will bust it.
apparently though on Tuesday the cops decided to bust all the house parties in hunt street even if they were inside and it sent a massive group of people outside and everyone walked to campus town. Of course all these drunk college students were mad and a riot started.
i can't blame cops for doing their job but maybe if they let the house parties go on the riot may have never happened. I was stuck inside studying for an exam I had the next day so I can't say everyone that went on because I only saw videos and my friends told me what they saw.
I also heard they busted a lot of the cyclone apartment parties also which brought another big group of students out to the streets. I don't know why they decided to bust parties when in the past they are pretty lenient for Veishea.( speaking of experience from older relatives that went to Iowa state)
