Left-handed layups

I'm enjoying this season to no end. I'm not a negative person. File this critique under "1st-world problems", finding something--anything--to complain about. But...

I continue to be surprised that after all these years of playing basketball, a couple of the guys can't/won't/don't shoot a left handed layup where they jump off their right foot and lay it in off the glass with their left hand as they approach the basket from the left. Morris failed a couple times, and Long once, last night. And I cringed in games earlier this season.

I'm old enough to have played grade school basketball wearing ball-hugger shorts with a belt on them, but I also played when their was a 3 point line in junior high. So it's not like I was shooting granny shots in peach baskets, but yeah, I'm old school. The grade school teams I coach now all run layup drills from both sides. I'm sure the Cyclones have had much better coaches than me to teach them fundamentals! How can it be that these guys aren't executing the technique in a college game? I would think that after missing the awkward switch to the right hand finger roll layup like happened a few times last night that they'd make a correction at some point.

...ok, back to basking in the victory and enjoying the success.

Yeah definitely noticed that especially earlier in the game last night. Felt like we didn't finish like 3 or 4 times right at the hoop. Drives me crazy! But Monte and Naz usually find a way to get them in. Would have been a different game if we hit a few of those early i think.

Using the rim to prevent a guy blocking your shot is not a bad thing... Hence the reverse lay up.

I do agree that lots of guys in CBB go up way too soft

I notice all the time in college ball (and a few times last night) guys go up trying to avoid contact and shoot a circus shot layup and miss it. Drives me nuts they don't just go and if you get hit, get hit. If you get blocked get blocked. Houge was the master of missing bunnies for double pumping layups.

I think Uthoff was a big reason we missed so many layups last night. Guys were definitely worried about getting the shot blocked.
