Dantonio was also a cinci coach. They are the definition of a stepping stone school for coaches. Fickel is just the latest in a long line of people that find success and jump to a bigger program. They are a fine addition to the big 12 but they will be a bottom feeder not competing for anything on the regular.
The same blah blah was said about TCU when they joined the Big 12 back in 2010. With the additional monetary resources, if Cinci gets the right coach, they can win a conference championship. From a football standpoint, the Big 12 is wide open with OU leaving. Even with OU still around, seven different teams have/will have played in the conference championship game this year and the three previous years. Including this year and the previous five years, only WVU and KU haven't played in the championship game.

I believe Campbell stays and agree that it’s a lateral move for most people. His selling points for Cincinnati are he’s moving back home and into a territory he likes to recruit, likely making recruiting easier for him, so I can see why people think there’s a fit
Campbell is from northern Ohio. To be honest, the people I know from Cleveland consider Cincinnati to be from a whole different region of the country.

Not that this has ever stopped a coach from leaving Iowa State, but to the Campbell kids Iowa IS home. I don’t know how old the older kids are, but they probably don’t ever remember living in Ohio.

I could see similar to TCU.

Good/great once every 8-10 years, middle of the pack otherwise, and a few rebuilding years in between. TCU has been mid/bottom of conference team last 3-5 years. Every once in awhile you get a veteran team to stick together and get bounces to go your way for a great season.

If Matt wants to leave, so be it. Whatever he feels is best for him and his family.... go for it.

At this point.... does anyone think we can't go find someone else for $3-4 million a year that can win 1 Big 12 game with this roster?
What are we talking about here? You want the only guy who has ever won sh*t at this school to leave? I mean good lord people, the guy lost a ton of offensive production and were shocked the offense sucked? A down year was expected, do people not remember life before campbell? Every year was like this one, we sent 28000 fans to memphis to play a damn team we already beat once. This fanbase has become spoiled with a little success and now they are ready to turn. The only reason he came here was because of the fans so my advice, shut up and let the man do his job.

That’s why I said not competing on the regular. Even northwestern who most on this board would call a doormat, played in the big ten championship game a couple years ago. They can compete but not year until year out.

Things are about to get a lot easier for ISU (especially in certain years where the schedule is extra favorable in the new Big 12). I think it would be stupid to blow it all up and start over at this point. Our recruiting is good and improving and that’s what really matters.

Northwestern is not competing for any B10 titles. They just happen to play in one of the weakest divisions in all of FBS. Half of your conference is a running joke. Things are different in the B12.

Not worried in the least about CMC this year. Gotta keep Heacock if we can though. It wouldn't surprise me if either of the Big Ten hires targeted him with the bazooka of media cash at their disposal.

You said Cinci was going to be a bottom feeder not competing for anything on the regular, which to me means you expect them to be consistently at the bottom of the conference standings. I think that would be a rather foolish assumption.

Yeah sustained ten wins seasons aren’t rare for those at the top. The only non 10 win season Ohio state has had in the last 20 years was the Luke fickel season. Dabo took Clemson from a joke to a power, his seat isn’t remotely warm.
Agreed.

Just surprised Dabo is staying with the QB.

Yep I would have them consistently in the bottom third and then every couple years putting together a good squad led by upper class men and then they will lose their coach. Dantonio was there for 3 seasons, Kelly three seasons, fickel was for 4 if you count covid, even Butch Jones was there for 3 before taking a job at tenn. Maybe the pattern changes in the big 12 but it didn’t stop fickel from leaving.

I suspect Wisconsin could pay Fickel quite a bit more than Cincy, and they have better facilities. Wisconsin has won nearly half of the Big 12 West titles...maybe he sees Wisconsin as an easier path to a conference championship game...

Patterson never left TCU, once he saw that the conference provided him a viable path to a national championship...

Sounds like you are sad that Prohm left. Should we have abandoned him earlier?

Signs are signs. Not my fault Matty MAC can't preserve timeouts or manage the end of games.

LOL what a ridiculous comparison. Prohm and Campbell couldn't be a better example of apples and oranges. But you know that.

Calling him Matty Mac and St. Matthew is just a childish way to try to get attention and prove your point. You're not more enlightened than the rest of us. Might be time to for you to stop trolling so hard.
