What was the purpose of him moving to the Tight Ends position? I saw that at his previous schools he was the receivers coach and at Iowa State he was not doing very well with our receivers. What gives? Is the guy on the hot seat so they put him with a position that might not be as strong as our WRs are going to be. Messingham did a great job with the TEs and that appeared as a position of talent last year. Are we putting Messingham as the WRs coach because he has proven to be more productive of getting players involved in the offense? This is not a call out towards Wells, I am just curious.

Pretty much answered your own question. Rhoads spun it as wanting to switch things up to get these guys new coaches giving them instructions but it's hard to deny that Messingham has outworked Wells so far.

Messingham was also a WR coach at numerous stops in his past

I know that...Does this just mean Messingham is being upgraded for how well the TEs have performed under him? We all know WRs need to be a huge part of this offense and TEs are more of fall back guys, so I am wondering if this is kind of putting Wells on the chopping block.

I wouldn't say a position coach position to a different position coach position is an upgrade. It's a lateral move. I wouldn't look too much into it other than Rhoads felt a change was necessary and hopes it creates bigger playmaking opportunities.

I recall somebody posting when the change originally went down about how he felt the WR's were doing an excellent job blocking on runs and screens, while a TE led the team in receiving yards and receptions. I don't know how much truth there is to that because I don't really watch to see how good guys are at blocking, but it seemed like a plausible explanation.

Wow, that's hard to read.

That would have been me....I sorta posted it in jest, but there are some truths to it.

Compared to when Chizik was here, ISU WRs have been blocking pretty damn well the last couple years. Especially bubble screens. Those plays have been good for about 5 yards more than when Chizik was here. Obviously the nice TE production was noted as Franklin dropped very few passes.

Its already been proven the WRs needed a change of some sort....so why not switch things around.
