I would say that about 90% of NFL players make it there on pure talent. Kaepernick is an athletic freak and was widely regarded as the most TALENTED QB in the draft. Put him up against crappy competition and that just isn't fair. How many guys like that do you see turn broken plays into highlight real plays, it happens all the time.
Mangino exceled with Huepel, White, and Reesing. Not sure you will find many scouts saying those guys were uber talented.

He was seen as a prospect with some physical tools and decent arm strength, but there were lots of questions about his accuracy and ability to play in an offense that wasn't the Pistol. He wasn't widely regarded as the most talented qb in the draft. That's simply not true.
