Reminds me of Taylor Massa. Had a similar move that choked people out. Was soon ruled illegal and I think Massa quit wrestling shortly after.

Remember him trying it on Michael Moreno (At Nationals maybe), Moreno fought it off. Not sure how. I wish I could find the match.

I saw various clips on Twitter. I can’t get over the fact the announcers seem ecstatic & okay with Mantanona using that move.

I missed that until now. But I do recall Trent Weatherman being choked out on his feet. Probably the beginning of the end for his career. Refs need to be accountable for that.

It is a bit of a judgement call, no? If the wrestlers hands aren’t locked, when does it become a choke vs just a tight front head?

For example, is this not the exact same move that Nickal hit on Myles Martin in the NCAA finals? A head and arm elevator? Here is an image from right before Nickal leaned back and went elevator. What is the difference between this and what Mantanona did? Is it simply that the Arkansas kept his hips down and didn’t go over that it tightened to the point of a choke?

I’m not a wrestler by any means but is it on the person to flip their hips over and give up their back when the opponent puts them in this position just so they don’t get choked out?

Is Little Rock a big 12 affiliate member now? I have a hard time getting these straight. I thought they were in the pac 12 maybe but why then is OU wrestling them so late in the year?

They're Pac-12, but they wrestle OU and OSU in non-con.

It’s probable a judgement call but when you’re hit with a warning earlier in the match, this should be an easy call.

I agree with that. And anyone that knows anything about wrestling could tell he would go out if he continued to fight. How the ref allowed the pin to happen is mind boggling.

If you’re ALR’s coach, at that point do you forfeit the dual in protest? I’ve never been a wrestler and I certainly lack the “tough guy” mentality, but I wouldn’t feel good about putting the rest of my guys out there against a team and refs that allowed that to happen. Hope something is done about this.

Is it a judgement call? Wasn’t it illegal the moment Mantanona didn’t have an arm?

The ref has got to stop that as soon as it became a choke. What are the ALR coaches doing? They should have been running out on the mat to protect their guy.

I was at the ISU/OU meet several years ago when Degan essentially got choked out. Can’t remember who he was wrestling or that exact hold but it was bad. The ref finally stopped it Jerrod left the mat dazed but came back and finished. Again not sure if it was the same move done by OU guy? Degan lost the match.
Anyone remember match?
